Loach to Sign on Thursday
Loach to Sign on Thursday
Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 21:08

TWTD understands that Scott Loach will sign for the Blues tomorrow. The 24-year-old Watford keeper has been at Portman Road this evening to undergo a medical and will complete a £150,000 switch from the Hornets on Thursday.

A deal is all but agreed and the former England U21 international appears certain to become Town's new number one, despite reported interest from Blackburn.

Loach is unlikely to join up with the Blues squad in Holland for tomorrow’s match against Den Bosch but will be a Town player well in time for their UK-based friendlies.

The Nottingham-born keeper, who we reported was the subject of a Town enquiry in late June, was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family relocated back to his home town. Town's other senior keeper Arran Lee-Barrett would also have been at the academy at the same time.

Loach had previously been linked with Town on a number of occasions during the close season, having said it would be “a dream to play” for his boyhood club one day last summer.

The 6ft 4in tall keeper established himself as Watford’s number one during 2008/09 but after a drop in form fell out of favour at Vicarage Road last season with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak — Town’s number one keeper target until he joined Brighton - coming in on loan.

In addition to his spells as a youngster with the Blues — where he will have worked with current keeper-coach Malcolm Webster and returning academy director Bryan Klug - and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, spending time on loan with the likes of Bourne Town, Radcliffe Olympic, Boston Town, Spalding United, Stamford, Lincoln United, Gedling Miners Welfare and Grantham Town while with the Imps, who will receive 15% of the fee the Blues are paying the Hornets.

In April 2006, Loach moved on to Watford, Lincoln receiving £50,000 in compensation. Prior to breaking into the first team at Vicarage Road he went on further loan spells at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City.

Loach can be seen in action for Town’s academy in this short film.

Some people seem to have nothing better to do with their time other than moan seriously - Loach is a decent player, so what if he has an 'off' year last year, every player goes through it for example - Torres, still a class act but had a very rough 18 months but returning to his best, TheWizardDeVos amongst others need to realise they are supporting ITFC not MUFC or Real Madrid, we might not be the best team in the world, and we all want us to be back in the EPL but lets face it we have stayed in the second best league in the English FA, which should be considered an achievement in its self, look at the teams in recent history that have been relegated some have returned and many have not, some of those teams not so long ago where EPL recognised teams....people need to stop being so pessimistic and get behind the team that Paul Jewell and co. are creating. maybe if you so called fans who spent all that wasted breath on moaning and concentrated it to singing in the stands we could make Portman Road a Forte where no team wanted to come and play the mighty ITFC like it used to be many years ago!! RANT OVER

So you CAN debate, and put forward an argument. Not too defensive either, but my original post was not a dig at you, just the style you used.

Anyway, should we not factor in these following issues if you have followed footie for so long?
- Any Championship goalie will be labelled as a 'reserve' when a decent premier league goalie is loaned in (remember most of the negativity on here is simply by people who are gullible to tabloid manipulation techniques). Did you consider the quite brilliant Cudicini as a 'reserve keeper' level, when Cech was brought in for Chelsea? At the time they had two of the best keepers in Europe.
- Young players lose form and consistency: and are more likely to be affected by personal issues and crowd abuse.
- Most players who have been at a club for a while, lose form due to the comfort zone and lack of motivation, challenge, complacency, etc.

Most decent managers are often looking for a player who has just had a bad season. As I mentioned before, it's because he will have more motivation and a 'I-must-prove-myself-again' attitude (often due to criticism), and his price will be much cheaper.

My thoughts on Loach.

150+ appearances at this level (more than ALB with his 30 odd)
Still only 24
Former U21 international

Considering how much we've paid, I think it's a good signing. Not great, but a good one, and shows the club are trying to get finances in order to secure the long term longevity of the club. Evans won't be about forever, so I want the club to be self-sufficient, as long as that doesn't cost us relegation.

@Tractordamage

Well put. and while on the subject perhaps Wizard should reflect on this final stat...
In the 10 league games Kuzak played for Watford he picked the ball out of the net 14 times. Loach, in his final 10 games picked it out 17 times. Hardly a massive difference between the two concidering one's a Premier league keeper!

Exactly, he's a great signing and list of bargain buys, by Jewell and Clegg, is getting ever longer.
Unfortunately these events DO expose the more ignorant negative supporters, no matter their age.

I'm so chuffed, I'm going to quote a dumbass H32 comment in celebration:
"Has anyone ever told you that SARCASM is the lowest form of wit"

[Well, no, as my mates are intelligent enough NOT to use flawed 'rent-a-quotes'...particularly as the top comedy on the planet is based on sarcasm and its various forms (satire and dry humour). ie Monty Python, Blackadder, The Office, Fawlty towers, Family Guy, South Park, etc etc etc]

Be aware of rent-a-quotes peeps...only the very stupid hide behind them, because they need others to do the thinking for them. Sarcasm is actually the highest form of wit. Isn't life ironic when you analyse the facts, and learn to think for yourself ;-)

bluelady -take a tip and read the previous post to what my post refers - you will then find it easier to understand (hopefully).

Just to clarify a few idiotic, yes idiotic, posts made by some - I am as pleased as anyone by the signings this week - but it doesn't mean to say I am ecstatic in terms of prospects for the season ahead.
Still not convinced that Jewell is the man for this Club - but I will say again (god knows how many times I have to say it) - I GENUINELY HOPE HE PROVES ME WRONG. Because it's the Club that matters to me, not individuals.

Now how many posters are as fair as that with the TRUTH ?- not many I do know.
