Loach to Sign on Thursday Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 21:08
TWTD understands that Scott Loach will sign for the Blues tomorrow. The 24-year-old Watford keeper has been at Portman Road this evening to undergo a medical and will complete a £150,000 switch from the Hornets on Thursday.
A deal is all but agreed and the former England U21 international appears certain to become Town's new number one, despite reported interest from Blackburn.
Loach is unlikely to join up with the Blues squad in Holland for tomorrow’s match against Den Bosch but will be a Town player well in time for their UK-based friendlies.
The Nottingham-born keeper, who we reported was the subject of a Town enquiry in late June, was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family relocated back to his home town. Town's other senior keeper Arran Lee-Barrett would also have been at the academy at the same time.
The 6ft 4in tall keeper established himself as Watford’s number one during 2008/09 but after a drop in form fell out of favour at Vicarage Road last season with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak — Town’s number one keeper target until he joined Brighton - coming in on loan.
In addition to his spells as a youngster with the Blues — where he will have worked with current keeper-coach Malcolm Webster and returning academy director Bryan Klug - and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, spending time on loan with the likes of Bourne Town, Radcliffe Olympic, Boston Town, Spalding United, Stamford, Lincoln United, Gedling Miners Welfare and Grantham Town while with the Imps, who will receive 15% of the fee the Blues are paying the Hornets.
In April 2006, Loach moved on to Watford, Lincoln receiving £50,000 in compensation. Prior to breaking into the first team at Vicarage Road he went on further loan spells at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City.
Loach can be seen in action for Town’s academy in this short film.

Can't really go wrong for £150,000 and funny how Clegg has had no mention for helping pull off this deal. Good luck Scott hope you are a future legend at our Club.
Fantastic news, well done pj and co for getting this deal done. £150k is a bargain, this makes up for the wasted money we spent on Priskin! Hopefully we will also sign another defender, left winger and striker before the season starts.
Cannot deny that a 24yr old Keeper, with potential, and decent history, is anything but a potentially good signing (if he signs).
I never mince my words, and it gives me pleasure to say that at long last - we may just be heading in the right direction !! - lets now sign a couple more of the recently mentioned players.
Does this mean a few of those hypocrites out there who slagged off the whole team (from top to bottom, including 'pathetic' fans) will now be supporting the team again?
Excellent signing at last a popular signing with all but the unimportant. Scott is a true blue , lets not forget he is one of us as a player and a fan so will do everything in his power to move Ipswich forwards and upwards. Now lets get Kello in as no2 and Steve Davies up front plus a left winger and maybe another centre back and we will be ready.COYB.
The third signing of the summer, and the third I like. A 24-year-old former England U21 international for 150K sounds very good value for money to me. We can really enjoy watching Loach, hoping he develops into a top keeper under the guidance of Webster.
truthhurts - has anyone ever told you that SARCASM is the lowest form of WIT - obviously not.
In answer to your question -What it does mean is: - SOME PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH - and can hold there heads high in doing so. Why not try it yourself !!!
h32- that's the point. You dont always talk the truth. Fair play, u do come on , unlike others when good news stories are posted, but in recent weeks u have slagged off PJ and SC for not signing players and closing deals etc. Only this week u were calling it ludicrous to go with just ALB to Holland. As with the Chambers deal u were wrong. We signed him and we now hopefully are signing Loach and also have another keeper on trial. Several of us said have patience and we have been proved right, he did have a plan. Or would u rather he sign any old keeper in time for pre season? I don't know if these players will prove good signings or not but maybe now u will wait a bit in future before u make accusations.
Jewells signings so far this close season are very positive. I really hope this is a turning point for town but i won't be patting PJ & SC on the back until performances & results pick up during the season. Fingers crossed were heading in the right direction.
