Town Linked With Celtic Defender
Town Linked With Celtic Defender
Friday, 3rd Aug 2012 23:51

Town are being linked with a £250,000 move for Celtic central defender Kelvin Wilson. The 26-year-old was previously a team-mate of recent Blues signing Luke Chambers at Nottingham Forest.

Wilson is reported not to have settled since moving to Scotland on a Bosman free transfer last summer. During 2011/12 the Nottingham-born centre-half made 20 starts and one sub appearance for the SPL champions.

The 6ft 3in tall defender, who is contracted to the Bhoys until 2015, began his career with Notts County, where he made 78 starts and eight sub appearances, scoring four times, before moving to Preston, initially on loan in March 2006.

He made only 19 starts as well as playing 11 games from the bench in 15 months with the Lilywhites before moving to Forest for £300,000 in July 2007.

During four years at the City Ground Wilson, who is right-footed but has played on both sides of the centre of the defence, made 130 starts and six substitute appearances without scoring. His last goals came for Preston in January 2007 when he scored in two successive matches.

Although Wilson and Chambers played a lot of games together at Forest, Chambers was at right-back for many of them with Wes Morgan partnering Wilson a the heart of the defence.

Wilson has also recently been linked with a return to Forest and was mentioned in connection with a move to Leicester earlier in the summer.

The addition of another central defender before the season starts is very much on Paul Jewell’s wish list with the Blues having continued to show a tendency to concede from set pieces during pre-season.

Georgos Santos was a tall defender.

Just saying. Also this guy has a tattoo on his neck. In psychology terms that means psychopathic tendencies doesn't it?

Sign him up.

@PJ_Needs_Duncan - spot on, he is big and physical with pace. What a signing for 250k and a good manager will sort his mistakes out!

Not really bothered by this, too many players linked,no real substance to these rumours.cant see this guy dropping down from Celtic on decent wages to us who it now seems mr Evans has said to management you ain't wasting anymore of my money,if it did happen can only be a murphy type season loan, but realistically can't see this one happening.

Let's hope it comes true, but he's want first team football I expect and I thought we were all set for a Smith-Chambers partnership. Wilson would add competition for places and we do need that at centre back, so let's see what happens.

Anyone concerned about the lack of steal through the core of the team not just in defence? I am!

This lad is presence, he is a big guy who takes no nonesense in the box, very dominating on crosses and EXACTLY what has been missing

The day Chambers arrived I speculated over whether we would move for Wilson. Would be delighted if this move went through. Really good defender.

If we get many more links we will be in the Guinness Book of Records as the football club with the longest chain ever.

Rather have Kane Ferdinand at centre half!

Whether we get him or not the important thing is Jewell is aware that we need another centre half. Delaney isn't good enough, needs to move on which only leaves Smith & Chambers. The difference between success and failure last year was the amount of goals we gifted through defensive errors, if we can get that right then we have a real chance of a top 6 finish.

Would welcome a no-nonsense defender to sort out crosses coming into our box. Although I was hoping to see a Smith-Chambers partnership week in week out this season.
Just read that Peterborough have made a bid for Southend's winger, Ryan Hall. He had the highest number of assists last season in all of English football and scored 14 goals in league 2. I really think he is the pacey winger we could do with and for probably 400k - 500k he could be a good buy.

Yeah get him at that cheap price, even though I don't know much about him, but good to compete for places. Hopefully Smith-Chambers will be our pair at CB but there will always be injuries through the course of a long hard season.

Would be very good for that price, Celtic obviously saw something in him. From what i know he's very powerful and quick but I wont be getting my hopes up.

he has been struggling for the mighty Celtic.. would be a risk bringing him to PR, but you never know...
