Jewell: Kean Has Shown Great Dignity
Friday, 17th Aug 2012 06:00

Blues boss Paul Jewell has praised his Blackburn counterpart Steve Kean for the way he’s dealt with the “unwarranted abuse” he’s received during his time in charge at Ewood Park. Town open their Championship campaign with a game against the Lancastrians on Saturday afternoon (KO 3pm).

Jewell said: “Looking at it from afar, from a manager’s point of view, going back to last season, I think Steve Kean’s held himself with great dignity.

“It’s a tough role. Some of the abuse he’s had has been unwarranted. We all accept we get criticism, but sometimes it goes over the line.

“I think some of the stuff that Steve has had to put up with has been horrible really, but I think he’s dealt with it exceptionally well and he’ll probably tell you that he’s come through it stronger and he’s a better manager than he was this time last year.

“It’s a lonely old job this and some of the stuff he’s had to put up with, he’s dealt with it ever so well.”

Kean has been amongst the busier Championship managers in the transfer window, having brought in Danny Murphy (Fulham), Leon Best (Newcastle United), Nuno Gomes (Braga), Fabio Nunes (Portimonese), Paulo Jorge (Porto), Edinho Junior (Olhanense), Dickson Etuhu (Fulham) and loanee Colin Kazim-Richards (Galatasaray), and the Blues could benefit from one of his other ongooing targets.

Rovers want to add former Blue Jordan Rhodes to their squad, with an outside chance of a deal being done in time for Saturday, and Town are due 10% of the profit Huddersfield make on the fee they paid for the Scotland international, believed to be around £850,000 in total with all milestone clauses now met.

I agree Kean has indeed been dignified & has not risen to the bait, also seems a nice bloke too. I'm not sure how I'd feel if he was our manager and just got us relegated though, fair play to Blackburn though they've stuck with him!
Seems like a strong squad, be a tough game Saturday COYB!!!!!

It will be intresting to see what Rhodes can do in the Championship.

When he was sold there was no telling if he would have made it in the Championship the 3 seasons he has spent in the lower leagues will have help to develop him in to the player he is now.

Good Div 1 player can become average Championship players.

Think it was a mistake to sell Rhodes but on the other hand would he still be like Murray being sent out on loan and 3rd chose to Chopra and Scotland ?

Huddersfield have bought Sean Scannell from Palace to play with Rhodes.
Thats a frightening combination. Plenty of youthful exuberance, pace, energy, skill and goals!

If they keep Jordan I expect the Terriers to be well clear of relegation, 10-15th place come the end of the season.

As for Blackburn, they have a strong squad. Good to play them first off and sneak a win!

Kean has deserved the abuse for the way he abused Sam Allardyce ! He is only reaping what he sowed and in my opinion should not complain when people give their opinions of him and his performance !

meekreech, fair enough about his comment on Allardyce, but the abuse Keen got most of last season (and well before his comment was made) was beyond anything I think I've ever come across in 40+ years of following football. He must have preferred away games where presumably there weren't the (same amount) of banners etc.
As to game tmrw, ok they've bought a lot but partly becos of that subsequent disruption to their team and also becos relegated clubs usually take a while to readjust to the lower league I think it's a good time to play them. COYB

The abuse Kean has received has been disgraceful, but you got a good idea of what kind of bloke he is in THAT video.
