Villa Still Watching Cresswell
Saturday, 25th Aug 2012 17:36

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert says Town's Aaron Cresswell is one of a number of left-backs he is keeping his eye on. The Premier League side made an enquiry regarding the 22-year-old former Tranmere man towards the end of July but have not made a further approach.

Lambert said: “There’s a few out there I’d be interested in. I can’t talk about anybody else’s players, but there’s a few. Cresswell? He’s one of many I’m looking at.”

give us 6m and let us actually SPEND THEM on players we desperately need. Smith is NOT good enough at this moment of time.. we need a left winger as well.
And if cressy goes get a left back in also
Whats happening to JET?

Interesting that Smith WAS good enough second half of last season, you can see by the amount of MOM's he got! so very strange, Edwards position hasn't been addressed purely as he is captain but has never been a very good defensive player. But as mentioned other players are needed particularly back up to Chopra/Scotland.

if he goes we would then need even more players in by Friday. the 3-4 we already need is going to be hard enough to sort. Teams will hold us to ransom as well for replacements as they will know how desperate our situation at left back is.

"I can't talk about anybody else's players, but there's a few. Cresswell? He's one of many I'm looking at.”

A bit of a contradiction?

I doubt today did much for Cresswell's valuation. Such a shame after the good start to the season. 4 points from the tough three opening games is not bad, but a 6-0 defeat hurts.

IT will be our luck that Lambert will buy Cresswell late on Friday,, so that it will leave us no time to spend any money for replacements ???
I have a feeling Marcus Evans will not undo that knot in his Purse Strings before then ???
I hope I am wrong !!! just a thought.

Too late, it's not a time to be selling our best players. Any offer should be rejected.

Is this a pic of him celebrating his own goal today?

He'll see that Cressy is a goal-scoring left back after today! (Only joking ~ DO ONE Lambert you inbred!)

Need a striker, winger & CB. Seriously Ive always had alot of patience for Tommy Smith (and still do to be hounest) but to be hounest I think we need to replace him at this moment in time. looked shakey vs Watford & from what Ive heard was shocking today. Please Mr Jewell sort it out! COYB!!!!

Just a bad day. forget it and move on

I would honestly sell the lad if the bid is £4m plus, if we could get two or three solid players with that money in positions that we vitally need it would serve us much better than having one decent left back. On the other hand our transfer activity for incoming players has been very slow and with a week left of the transfer market we will probably struggle to get anyone in, and with such a thin squad we probably have no choice but to keep hold of him, not that that's a bad thing, I just would rather strengthen certain areas than keep hold of one left back.

Tommy Smith needs resting, he will come back more focused the guy has played a lot of football and travelled a lot of miles to say the least. He came back a better player last season after a spell out. Thats why we need a quality cb, cant replace him with Delaney, no way.

If Cresswell goes, i cant see the money going into the squad, the Wickam money didn't, did it?

I really hope the players and the management hurt as much as we do this morning and produce a result and performance over the next 2 games to put a little of the hurt behind us....coyb

In other words, he shouldn't talk about other clubs' players but he will anyway. He'll be sacked by Christmas anyway

I might get slated for this but either we sell him or we buy another left back and push Cressy forward into midfield where i feel he would be more effective.

PauloJulio I agree with you I think IF we get top dollar, can reinvest most of the money back into the squad IN TIME before the window shuts, then we should sell.

Dont get me wrong, I think he is a good player with a lot of potential, he's come a long way in a short period in time. But unfortunately replacing a promising left back is easier than replacing say, a striker who bags tons of goals.

If you get the chance to leave for a premiership side then my advice is take the opportunity.
Can't see Jewell, clegg or Evans, being informed or motivated enough to put together a side that is able to challenge for a automatic promotion spot.
If a manager cannot sign his "A" list of wanted players due to what ever circumstances, money, geographical location etc, we are always going to be a second best side.
Splashing cash in the last few seasons hasn't worked, Jewell and Keane have both been guilty of wasting the money on non performing players.
Evans I can't work out! Does he want the club to succede or is just a way of legitiment tax evasion - sorry tax offsetting - for his empire?
Can't work out Jewell either, surely to god even he can see we need another cb and rb.
Just how much more of this crap have we got to watch.
Opening match against Blackburn, I thought that for a relegated premier side they were so poor.
Brilliant result against Watford.
As for Saturdays dire performance, well to say i'm disappointed is putting it mildly.
Think that this will be another season where consistancy will be one thing that is consistantly missing from our performances, hope i'm wrong.
Good luck with the game against Carlisle boys, maybe we can get a cup run going. COYB's.
