Jewell Doesn't Expect Any Deadline Day Deals
Friday, 31st Aug 2012 13:08

Blues boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect to sign any more players before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Jewell, who has added Guirane N’Daw, Paul Taylor and Daryl Murphy to his squad, but doesn’t expect any further additions before the provision to bring in loan players is open to Football League clubs next week: “We’ve made numerous phonecalls and tried to do deals for other players which haven’t quite happened yet, which happens because the Premier League is still trading until 12 o’clock tonight and if they get the players they want, we might be able to get some players from the Premier League clubs [on loan] until January.

“I don’t think we’re going to bring anyone in today, but maybe after the window opens next week we’ll bring in some more players to the club.”

He says that despite reports to the contrary earlier, there is nothing currently happening with Peterborough’s George Boyd: “We spoke with him, I met with the lad and for different reasons the deal couldn’t be done.

“It’s one that could possibly be revisited as time goes along, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Meanwhile, Jewell says there has been no interest in any of his players - other than Ryan Stevenson who is in talks regarding a free transfer to Hearts - but would like to send some of his youngsters, including Ronan Murray, out on loan.

Firstly the window shuts at 11pm not midnight so he should reschedule his day incase he thinks he has another hour to play with. Secondly he better be bluffing cause we are ok at full backs but Chambers Smith and Ainsley are not the 3 defenders which can help a club into the top half! We need either one absolute class CB to partner Chambers or 2 very solid ones plus hopefully Boyd. If we get those 2/3 players then we have squad. If he isn't bluffing then our attack better be good with Taylor and Murphy because we will need some serious Joe Royle spirit.

Patience folks

PJ knows full well that we need cover at CB and is working hard behind the scenes to get it sorted.

Bloody hell. Why cant he sign a centre half is beyond me. Hoping he is pulling the p..s out of us to keep us moaning all evening.

We have one game tomorrow and then nothing for two weeks. So the thinking would have to be that we scrape through tomorrow with 2CBs and then have two weeks to sort the problem out?

I'm really disappointed that he hasn't brought in a striker with aerial ability and agree with everyone else about CB's.

So we're back to loan signings again could be a long hard season, as a club under Evans ,jewell and clegg we are going backwards can't understand why we cancel delaneys contract without a replacement lined up lets hope we have no injuries in the near future or we are going to be caught out. after over 50years of going to portman road am strung to lose interest maybe time for whitton united.

I cant believe this rubbish. we have 9hrs to go and we aint gunna sign no-one else. We are at least 5-6 players short of a decent size squad. Im so angry right now its unreal.

Absolutely ridiculous if we don't sign another centre half after releasing Delaney! Always seem like we have the signs of improvement and take 2 steps back again

Total joke,he simply is not the man for the job,2 CB's,none coming in,the man is useless,Evans and Clegg have no intention of taking this club anywhere other than down,a couple of frauds,if he is calling our bluff, then loan signings are not the answer,we must try and bring in permanent deals,we will wait and see,but our days as a top club under this regime are fading fast.

Unbelievable. I really hope it's not true. Just 2 CBs is crazy. As is relying on short-term loans from Premier League clubs. I just don't get it.

Astonishing. So we have one centre back who no-one is sure of yet and one that we know is not good enough. I think Loack may need plenty of treatment for back ache during the season.

I'm pleased with the signings we have made this summer but I agree with people that we do need at least 1 more centre back. Hopefully Jewel is bluffing - heres hoping!

Cant n dont want to believe it,pj you are either shrewd at this transfer talk or have blind faith that some pitch pixies will come to towns rescue and keep clean sheets. No point getting players in for gk mid and strikers and neglect defense. Shipping goals and switching off has been our problem for last 6/7 seasons. Cant see us scoring more than other team every week. I think honesty from board n management is all us fans want.

PJ wants to spend as little time as possible in a press conference on deadline day because he needs to be working on transfers so.... what is the quickest way to end the conference???? that's right folks, by saying he does not expect any deals to go through... at least I hope PJ is that clever :)

There HAS to b something going on to get some defenders in here. It would be crass in competance to have allowed the onlly CB cover to simply walk away from the Club and not havce any plans to bring in AT LEAST x 2 new CB's.

If this is not the case we may as well all pack up now and simply wait for the League One fixture list. Absolutely unbeliebile !

I can't believe this, no strengthening of our defence whatsoever, yet he lets Delaney go yesterday, really hoped we would get at least one preferably two Centre Backs in today!!

How many years have we needed two CB ? but still we have none I do not feel in the slightest bit optimistic about this season. Unless we start playing with 4 strikers up front.
