Hewitt Could Make First Appearance in Town Shirt
Thursday, 6th Sep 2012 06:00

Summer signing Elliott Hewitt could make his first appearance in a Town shirt on Friday when the Blues U21s take on Cardiff City at Playford Road (KO 11am). The 18-year-old was back in full training for the first time last week having undergone two hip impingement operations while with his former club Macclesfield.

Manager Paul Jewell had pencilled in the right-back for Friday’s game as long as he trained without any problems: “Hopefully he’ll get a good week’s training and then play against Cardiff in the U21s on Friday.

“It’s been a really frustrating time for Elliott, he’s worked exceptionally hard since he’s been here. Since we signed him he’s always been in the gym, now he’s getting himself out on the grass. He’s only 18 but he’s looked sharp in training.”

Friday’s game is Town’s first at home in the newly-formed U21 Professional Development League Two South. Their only match so far was the 2-1 defeat at Swansea.

Good news- can he play centre half?!.. On a serious note I think that given time he could be a real prospect. Good luck Elliott

If we get two good full backs who stay in position and stop so many crossess coming into the box ,and stop our centre backs being drawn out of position to cover, the centre backs we have may start looking a lot better

Would be nice in years to come if we could compare Hewitt and Cresswell to Mills and Burley

If only Town could be as consistent and predictable. Life would be great, but boring.

Good luck son.

With such a long long off i'd kind of expect him to play 30 or so from the bench to build up match fitness but the article seems to suggest he'll be in the team. Shame he wasn't available for the league cup games as you would have thought he'd play in those but may be with so many games coming up he'll play as rotation for Carlos when CE needs a rest.

the good news is elliott is fit to play, the bad news is he piled pounds on during off season and now looks like james corden

Stepping up two leagues as well as recovering from injury must be rather a challenge for an 18-year-old, so let's not put too much pressure and expectation on him. Hopefully a good player for the future though.

"Elliott Hewitt, Elliott Hewitt, he's had work on his hips, Elliott Hewitt, Elliott Hewitt, he's still a good footballer and looks sharp in traaaaaaaaining." - just an idea for a song.
