Mogga: Town Will Be Fine
Monday, 17th Sep 2012 06:00

Former Blues coach and skipper Tony Mowbray says Town supporters shouldn’t be too concerned about their side’s prospects for the season ahead, despite Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to his Middlesbrough team putting them in the bottom three of the early season Championship table.

Mowbray was impressed with the Blues, who are 23rd, although three points from eighth with the season five games old: “I think Ipswich will be fine, they’ve got some good players.

“Obviously, I appreciate and like the way they play, they’ve got footballers who want to play, and yet the game is about winning football matches, as we all find.

“We’ve lost away at Barnsley and Millwall, matches that in my mind and I’m sure in our supporters’ minds which aren’t the toughest games in this division and we should have been picking up points and haven’t.

“So, we have to go to Blackpool and Blackburn this week and try and get some points. It’s a very, very tough league and I’m sure that as the season unfolds Ipswich will win lots of football matches.”

The 48-year-old, a scorer in Town’s 2000 Wembley play-off triumph over Barnsley, says Town have the striking options to win those games: “They’ve got the ammunition to do that.

“There’s Michael Chopra, obviously, I really like Paul Taylor, he’s a good player who can score goals, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. They’ve got good options in those wide areas. I wasn’t sure who or what they were going to play today.

“Daryl Murphy’s obviously an attacking threat with his physicality to start their attacks off, play direct into him and play from there. There are some good players, some good footballers in midfield. The full-backs have both got quality, so they will win football matches as they go along.

“Thankfully for us, I thought Jonathan Woodgate and Andre Bikey were mountains at the back for us and we came out with a victory.”

So Sky sports and talk sport, Paul Jewell, Scott Loach say we were the better team on Saturday, as did Alex Mathie, all professionals in the game, but no, according to those 'experts' on here they are all wrong!! And Mogga say's we will be fine, apparently what does he know? Nothing according to the 'experts'. Get a bleeding grip people!! There is no crisis, you got what you wanted in a more youthful team now allow it to grow! We have the worst fans in the world IMO and you are an embarrassment! If I was a player we tried to sign and I heard how dreadful the support is here I wouldn't wanna play for you either! Sort it out, or F off up the A140

Hollywoodginge well my friend did you go sat well I did trust me they ran about alot had lots of the ball there keeper made 2 saves .
Our defenders were awful little quality in midfield and Chopra might as well stayed at home .
Then we get to the manager poor team selection poor subs at wrong time etc.
So I bow to your knowledge as you seem to call everyone on fools.
No crisis are you Jewell in disguise or Evans

I have supported Jewell on here as i hate to see money wasted on a change of manager. However, i do feel we have now reached the tipping point. The next two games are crucial and nothing less than 4 points is required. After watching Wolves on Sunday, i do fear the worst as they will simply outmuscle us. Then we have Charlton - a hungry team just promoted, who want to build on that success.

If we fail to get the four points, then I am afraid to say that Jewell is a DEAD MAN WALKING.

In the meantime, we need to supoprt the players.

And if a Manager change is required, then Evans and Clegg must act swiftly and get the right man for the job. In my opinion, i would go for Mick McCarthy - good experience in this division, sorts out a defence, tries to play the right football and he does not like Roy Keane.

Personally I'm still worried. Yes we play pretty football but we don't score enough and let it too many the other end. Playing the same thing and expecting different results doesnt inspire me with confidence.

Nice old Uncle Tone reassures us that, no, while we aint going anywhere for a few more years yet, at least we're not so bad that we'll be adrift at the bottom by Christmas.

In other words "Thanks for the points chaps, you'll be a mediocre Championship Team for at least another season but full credit, you still like playing the game on the floor and being nice. Doubtless we'll bump into you again here when we're relegated from the Premiership next"

We need 2 strikers up front, murphy is a waste on the wing and what does scotland and ellington have to do to get a start. If murf or martin put a ball in chops is in on his own. The 1up front dosent work at this level we need to trouble defenders more that might keep them away from ours.

Ipswich61 - surely they have security at PR so you can't do that?

Mind you, better Jewell's arse than some. I bet you couldn't get one of your pubes up Marcus Evans backside. Tight...

I tend to find that managers are always very supportive and gracious about teams that have just gifted them three points!

Also, Mowbray turned down the chance to manage Town a few seasons back - if he likes us so much why didn't he want a job here?

Losing nobly is really exactly the same as losing badly in terms of points and league position.

Ipswich61 - just for the record, which three managers would be on your shortlist to replace Jewell - should he go.

So many negative posts. Have to agree with a few. Thats two managers who have come out after the came saying what a good side we are but the fact is we arent winnig enough games. i would rather win 1-0 ugly than lose 6-0 or 2-0 playing nice football.
Come on p.j get another deffender in soon, if we manage that than i do belive we have a mid table side.

I am slowly yet surely feeling confident as this season gets on. I know that many will say that we are 23rd and have already lost 6-0. However we are playing much better football than we did last season. Last season it was punt upfield and hope chops or murphy would get on to it to create a chance. This season we pass it about very nicely and I am impressed from what I have seen of Taylor and Luongo. But our problem which has been the wall which has stopped us from being in the Premier League and beating the best has been taking our chances and our defending.
We may have Michael Chopra, Daryl Murphy and Paul Taylor who WILL/are capable of scoring 20+ a season but we need the midfield to chip in too. Also is it me or have we been trying to be like JET and shoot from distance and score/hit woodwork because we are shooting from distance with no prevail. Im glad we have confidence to shoot from that distance but surely we need goals first??
Secondly we cannot defend for s***. Last season we had four different goalkeepers and conceded something stupid like 70 goals. I am not saying that Loach is a poor keeper but he has been uncomfortable with free kicks in the area. Another thing, having only 2 centre halves is a catastrophe. Letting Delaney go was a mistake and so was the Mohnsi guy. We need centre backs immediately.
Right rant over, if we get centre backs we will rocket up the table, you watch us. I forecast a top half finish and then a push for promotion next season. Despite what you think we are on the up. We just do not know it yet. COYB!!!!!

Some people seem to think that a new manager would completely change things but success in football is all about money, right down from the Man City's to our local football. The ones with the money are mostly at the top and those that don't have it are at the bottom and that's us. Our hideaway owner is making a pretty penny on the interest from our debt and couldn't give a monkey's whether we win or not..

Although he has just forked out another near £2million or so on another striker Gazelle ?

We have been mediocre now for years. When was the last time any of us felt 100% that we can win a game. We need 2 centre halves. 2 quality centre halves if we have to pay the money then we have to pay. You dont get anything for nothing

jocasaja added 16:24 - Sep 17
I actually feel more confident of doing something this year - I think we are developing a decent side - yes we need to start converting more chances, and yes we need 1 more centreback- but I like the football we are playing - However results matter, and it is important that we get at least 3 points from next 2 games - I also think that PJ should have at least until the Xmas break

BuckieBlue added 18:05 - Sep 17
With several new faces I think we still need time to gell (most sides so far are in the same boat), so in that respect how we do won't solve anything, although 4/6 points would boost confidence.
RE PJ's future, surely if ME was going to sack him he'd have got rid last year? If it is the case that he is letting him see contract thru, (and PJ has been told) it will either make him a better manger or will be too much pressure.
