Mohsni to Sign Three-Month Deal
Thursday, 4th Oct 2012 15:18

Southend defender Bilel Mohsni has confirmed that he expects to join Town on a three-month loan deal tomorrow. Earlier today, TWTD revealed that the Frenchman was back at Playford Road for a second spell on trial.

The versatile centre-half, striker or winger told the Southend Echo: “I expect to sign for Ipswich tomorrow and it will be a three-month deal.

“I came back in to train today and they put me through a fitness test on my own to make sure I’m fit enough to play.

“I’m really pleased that everything is close to being sorted and Ipswich are a good club in the Championship, so I’m happy to come here.”

Town boss Paul Jewell has said he is looking to sign players on loans with a view to permanent contracts in January.

The 25-year-old, who has fallen out with the Shrimpers, impressed during a week-long trial last month but turned down the chance to return for a second spell and spent time with Birmingham.

Paris-born Mohsni, who is primarily a centre-half, played for French lower league clubs CO Les Ulis, US Saint-Georges and Sainte-Geneviève Sports before joining Southend after a trial in July 2010.

Southend rebuffed a £250,000 offer from Blackpool in January 2011 with Mohsni having made a good early impression.

He faced the Blues in the 1-1 pre-season draw at Roots Hall prior to the start of the 2011/12 season, playing one half at the back and one up front and almost getting himself sent off for clashing with Lee Martin, Andy Drury amongst others in a lively, effective and not a little volatile performance.

Last season, cult figure Mohsni operated as a striker and then as a winger for Paul Sturrock’s side but failed to show for the start of pre-season training this time around as he was looking to play at a higher level, subsequently joining West Ham on trial.

The Hammers were impressed enough to offer £150,000 for 6ft 3in tall Mohsni but the Shrimpers refused the offer and the player returned to France.

He subsequently spent time with Celtic on trial before joining the Blues, during which time he scored in the 6-0 U21s victory over Cardiff.

Mohsni might not be Town's only signing before the weekend with Paul Jewell having revealed he could make two additions to his squad. The second is likely to be a striker with QPR's DJ Campbell having been targeted last week as cover for the injured Paul Taylor.

I like the idea that he can play at the back one half and then up front. First we sort out the defence, then Chopra can flap around for a half and then come off at half time and collect his winnings on Mohsni being first scorer before the game's over.Everyone's happy!

Blimey. I thought this was a fan site not the Daily Mail Comments site. Can we have a bit of positivity please. Two good away points, great performance at Brighton and a home game against a good Cardiff side (we usually beat them at home.) We are not far off! We have a good squad and the signing of players such as Moshni bode well. COYB, let's get behind the team and not start slagging off our players (Chopra!)

Have a good feeling about this one... tall, powerful, not a pushover, and can be on the bench to come on for Smith/Murphy.

If he signs. I like a player with a bit of attitude & swagger, as long as he's not a complete donut. The last time we had a big character was Shefti, he could score 20 goals in a season, he used to fly through the air after he scored, brilliant.

A bit of a wildcard signing I think, he probably has ability and unpredictability, but could be a risk given his recent actions. Let's give him a chance and see how he does I suppose.

The whole Chopra thing makes you wonder if he's happy to be involved in fixing horse races is he also capable of missing chances to fix football ones too? Not sure on Mohsni seems a good enough player but a stinking attitude!

@soapy - I agree. Although I'd add that we're not quite as bad as the Daily Mail as we haven't yet found away of blaming everything on gay arab illegal immigrant single parent paedophiles.

hahaha can't see the wood for the trees some people, this is, yet again a short term fix for a long term problem. The same happened last year bring in loans to get us out of the mire then they all foxtrot oscar back to their clubs and we are back where we started. I really hope all the loans do well (especially Higginbottom) however I would like to see more in view to a permanent deal. Wellens said it himself leicester wanted him to go out on loan and he needs games after injury. Wake up a smell the coffee people. The clowns in charge of this club couldn't run a bath let alone a football club. Btw I think we'll do Cardiff on saturday. get your minus markers out then for this post. LOL

Unfortunately afrodids it is not possible to sign anyone permanently at the moment, so loans will have to do.

Let me point out West Ham were impressed by him. Obviously there must be something there?! Give the guy a break until he at least plays one game for us

Wow where did this come from?!

Looks like a big strong boy with a bit of attitude which is no bad thing in a ITFC team that I always think look quite quiet and timid. Lets hope he turns out to be as good as we hope he is as we need all the help we can get at the back.

Things are looking up!....hopefully!

I've expressed reservations about this guy in the past, but I'm willing to give him a chance. If it works out well hopefully we can look to get him on a permanent deal after three months, if not then its no great loss. I'm just pleased we're bolstering the defence.
COYBs!

Really not sure about this...and I sometimes follow Southend, last season he was either good or a liability...a remarkable turnaround by Jewell, either desperation or a great loan signing (yes another).
