Town Confirm McCarthy Manager Thursday, 1st Nov 2012 09:10 Mick McCarthy has been confirmed as the new manager of Ipswich Town. The 53-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2015 and will be joined at Portman Road by his former Wolves assistant Terry Connor.
McCarthy said: “I’m obviously delighted to have been given the job as Ipswich Town manager and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“It’s a fantastic football club, with a proud tradition and history and a terrific fanbase.
“While the long-term ambition is to take the club back into the Premier League, it’s clear that the first priority is to get some confidence back into the team and start climbing the table.”
Blues chief executive Simon Clegg added: “I am delighted to welcome Mick and Terry to Portman Road.
“We are under no illusions of the challenge ahead for this club given our position in the table but we feel we have the right manager to lead that challenge.
“Mick has a wealth of knowledge in the game and has shown that he knows how to compete successfully in the Championship in his time at both Sunderland and Wolves.
“While the first task is to guide the club away from our current position, we believe Mick has all the credentials and drive to eventually bring success back to Ipswich Town.”
McCarthy has previously managed Millwall, Sunderland and Wolves at Championship level - taking the latter two clubs into the Premier League - and has an impressive record: Played 407 Won 185 Drew 115 Lost 107. His win rate at this level is 45.4%.
McCarthy and Clegg will hold a press conference at Portman Road at 5pm this evening which BBC Radio Suffolk is broadcasting live online.

Good news, all the best Mick and Terry, A lot of players with talent but stinking attitudes at the moment, but I'm sure you'll get them going if not they'll get going.

Sirbobbystand - look at his record in this Div which is a win rate of 45% - if replicated good enough for promotion and certainly playoffs every year. I know several Wovles fans, and go ahead and trawl their fan sites, they have nothing but good things to say about Mick. Also he has brought in youth and bought well from the lower leagues. Everfything that Keane and PJ didn't do!! I was never a PJ fan but this appointment is great for Town. Really want Matty or someone who bleeds blue as part of the backroom staff to put the icing on the cake. 33 games to go and we need to average about 1.5points per game and that's how Mick will look at it. Let's get PR back to being a fortress. The sun is shining and I hope we have now reached the bottom - COYB

Really good appointment but this will not turn things round over night. Lets give Mick the time he needs. Ive always felt weve some good players here but they have been very badly managed so with Hutch gone aswell we might find some of our current squad pick up now the Clowns era is over.

Another tired choice that will end in tears (very expensive tears). Can't Marcus see he is making the same mistake for the third time?

Brilliant news, fantastic appointment (just the kind of Manager we need NOW {& have done for some time}) - Good Luck Mick - kick some ass & lets climb up the table. Shout to any player not giving their best for the club "Buck your ideas up or Mick will be getting rid of you come January"

Mick will sort us out. He will give everyone a chance to begin with. But he will have a fair idea of the trouble makers at the club. He will give them a little pep talk. Play for this club or get out up to you lot. Was hoping a few weeks ago he would be irish manager again thats how highly i regard him. No prisoners now. Only those who will give everything will survive. He wont mind honest mistakes but slackers beware. JET Chops Martin Edwarda Even Cressy could meet his sharp tongue quite soon.

Back of the net!! - he has a surprisingly good win% considering the teams he's been in charge with, Millwall, Sunderland, ROI and Wolves - worst 38.5% best around 42.5% so pretty consistent! All the best Mick & Terry.
