Cowling Confirms Interest in Wordsworth
Sunday, 13th Jan 2013 15:40

Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling has confirmed that his club has received interest in midfielder Anthony Wordsworth, but says no formal bid has yet been received. As reported yesterday, we understand Wordsworth is set to join the Blues, having been monitored by Mick McCarthy since he took over at Portman Road.

Cowling said: “There’s nothing to report yet. Other clubs do seem to be interested in Anthony, but as yet I have received no concrete offers.”

Wordsworth, who is out of contract at the end of the season, missed yesterday’s U’s defeat at home to Scunthorpe as he was starting a two-match ban after amassing 10 bookings.

Meanwhile, Town boss Mick McCarthy was spotted at Meridian FC in Charlton this afternoon, which is close to his family home.

mustn't get too carried away folks on this one;but if it happens then good.Am so pleased to see that Nigel Reo Coker isn't staying as spent a lot of his time bossing other players about, and was so negative in his play.
Am just happy to leave it to Mick;but wouldn't mind seeing another Muhren or Thijssen in midfield from the continent because of ball control a lot of Europeans possess.

I'd love another Murhen or Thijssen too. Sadly, if you are looking at players who (as Murhen and Thijssen were then) are on the fringe of the Dutch national team, then we are dreaming. Balkestein or Uhlenbeek is our current (equivalent) Dutch level. We wouldn't even get a Reuser now. Agree we need a schemer, and I'd love to see the Dutch links revived. I recommend Nigel van Coker of Go Sideways Eagles Deventer, myself. Not.

"A violet by a mossy stone half hidden from the eye"? Or, with 10 bookings, should that be 'violent'? It was always only going to be a matter of time before someone started up with the poetry references.

Looks like he is still wandering lonely until the interest is firmed up.

My comment of "Don't want him" is based on actually having seen him play a few times. On the Gazette web site there are some Col U fans who seem pleased to lose him.

Hmmm 2 match ban for 10 yellow cards! Sounds as though he tackles like Lee Martin!
