Carlos a Doubt for Forest Trip
Monday, 4th Mar 2013 14:35

Skipper Carlos Edwards has emerged as a doubt for Tuesday’s trip to Nottingham Forest with a groin injury. The Blues will also be without loan striker David McGoldrick, who is unavailable against his parent club.

Manager Mick McCarthy says Edwards is his only new injury concern: “Carlos is a bit of a doubt, he’s got a sore groin area, his pubis symphysis. It’s just a little bit inflamed, so he’s a doubt for tomorrow.”

Town’s only other injured players are Anthony Wordsworth (cracked vertebrae) and Paul Taylor (foot). The striker, who hopes to be back in action before the end of the season, is currently working at the FA’s new National Football Centre at St George’s Park near Burton.

McCarthy admits it’s disappointing that Saturday’s goalscorer McGoldrick will be missing tomorrow but isn’t overly concerned about it: “It is but that was part of the deal and we knew it was coming.

“There’s no point whinging about it, you can’t play against your parent club. It was agreed at the time. No problem.”

The Blues boss has confirmed that Michael Chopra will continue in one of the striking roles but wouldn’t be drawn on who would replace McGoldrick, with Daryl Murphy, Aaron Mclean and Frank Nouble all options: “If I tell you that, I’d have to kill you.”

For Forest, one-time Blues loanee Danny Collins, who wears the armband at the City Ground, will be assessed having been replaced with blurred vision late on during Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

Another defender, ex-Colchester man Greg Halford, is banned, striker Marcus Tudgay is sidelined with a broken collarbone and centre-halves Daniel Ayala and Sam Hutchinson are back in training but not yet ready to return to action.

I think its a bit harsh the criticism flying around for Carlos, yeah he's not set the world alight but nor have a lot of em in the team.

And a 10 minute cameo by Emmanual Thomas doesnt make him Messi either. Its an opportunity for the boy to prove he's the player we all think he could be.

Would settle for a point tomorrow night, 3 would be fantastic and go an awful long way to making us safe.

Martin move to the right, Murphy to the left and JET/Nouble to start up front would be my guess.

Judging by our last away performance at Huddersfield, I would assume that MM will look to be equally as tight at the back, so am inclined to agree with the idea of Drury coming in and stringing 3 across CM and looking for Martin and Murphy wide with Chops through the middle. At least that way, Murph can push on to be a target man supporting Chops, then dropping in to the left to cover Cress.
