Jackett: Stearman Staying
Friday, 19th Jul 2013 11:26

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett says former Blues loanee Richard Stearman has no plans to leave the League One club. The Blues have repeatedly been linked with a move for the 25-year-old this summer after his impressive spell during the second half of last season.

However, Jackett says Stearman wants to stay at Molineux: “He hasn’t intimated to me that he wants to leave. He’s committed to Wolves, definitely.”

A Blues approach for Stearman would now appear less likely anyway with former Manchester United man Frederic Veseli — like Stearman a right-back or centre-half - close to being added to the squad.

Town are also in talks with Tottenham regarding the season-long loan of South African central defender Bongali Khumalo, while ex-Blue Titus Bramble is currently on trial at Portman Road.

Meanwhile, Wolves midfielder Karl Henry, a player Mick McCarthy is understood to rate very highly and who has been linked with Town on a number of occasions, has been mentioned in connection with a move to QPR.

Henry is one of four senior players Jackett has transfer-listed and not given squad numbers for the season ahead. The others are Stephen Ward - who has also repeatedly been linked with Town this summer - Jamie O'Hara and Roger Johnson.

Elsewhere, we understand that contrary to reports last night, Town aren’t amongst the clubs chasing Hull City winger Cameron Stewart.

The recent transfer speculation would have suggested this. Shame! Had hoped he would have signed but Micks plans are already in place with other players as we have seen.

We might have to be patient there. If Wolves don't look as though they're top 2 material in League 1 by Christmas and their finances start to bite, maybe something will happen mid-season.

He is way too good for League 1. I think Wolves will do well as Jackett as their manager. This news doesn't really come as a surprise since we have been after Veseli and others.

We've heard it all before - what odds he's left Molineux before the end of August? Far too good a player to be left plodding along at that level.

This would make sense with the links to other similar defenders like Veseli but not the end of the world as, from what I've heard, he seems decent and he obviously impressed Mick so should be a good addition if we sign him.

"He hasn't intimated to me that he wants to leave". So basically he hasn't handed in a formal transfer request, doesn't sound like he has intimated he is 100% staying either Kenny.

He will be on the radar of plenty of Championship clubs and probably knows he will get a move without having to make a Rooney-esque saga out of it.

For the first time in a long time we had a round peg in a round hole at right-back so it is a shame if we don't get him, sounds like we have plenty of other options though.

That's a shame, in that case i think Elliott Hewitt is ready to step up to number 1 right back with Veseli also here challenging him

Course he's going to say that. If he comes out and says Stearman is desperate to leave then they won't get a bid as high as they'd like for him. In any case, i think Hewitt/Veseli are good enough to be our first team right backs.

Oh well that means he definitely wants to stay at Wolves, Just like George Michael definitely wasn't gay because he hadn't intimated to anyone he was when he was in Wham!!

He might well of said “He hasn't intimated to me that he wants to leave. He's committed to Wolves, deff info!”

Lets be honest O'Driscoll said Anderson was not leaving Bristol City. It seemed Stearman was one of the scapegoats for Wolves PL relegation & shoved in the reserves so I hardly think he has any loyalty to them, more the fact he has a year left on a juicy contract. Does he want to play Championship or League One..mmm? Secretly I would think he would jump at the chance of a return to PR.

Jackett is just trying to drum up a transfer fee. Anything could happen between now & 31st Aug. Including MC most likely gone, once the season starts. No club wants to pay summer wages!

I think I am more disappointed that there seems to be nothing on the Cameron Stewart rumours! Great player. Exactly what we need.

After that crunching tackle he put in to flatten the lad from palace at portman road at the end of the season it wouldn't surprise me if holkoway went and grabbed him.
