Doherty on His Way
Sunday, 21st Jul 2013 16:09

Waterford United have wished 18-year-old winger Jack Doherty well for his future after he left Ireland to travel to Suffolk to finalise his move to the Blues. On Friday, TWTD reported that Doherty, who trained with the Town squad in Ireland earlier this month, would be on his way to Town to complete his switch over the weekend.

The Airtricity Division One club said via their official Twitter: “Best of Luck to [Jack Doherty] as he starts a new chapter in his football career.”

Doherty himself tweeted that he has said his farewells: “My God, I hate saying goodbyes, hardest thing I’ve ever done, at least I know I have everyone behind me.”

The Blues are understood to be paying Waterford an initial fee of around £50,000 with further payments due when the Clonmel-born player hits appearance milestones.

i really am loving what MM is doing to this club now. he has got in some very good signings, and has hardly spent a penny! i'm sure this young lad will be a great signing as well.

think cameron stewart would be a top signing as well. my family are from hull, and i used to go and watch them a few times, and stewart really is a good player. has tremendous pace, and a skilful player too. sometimes his final delivery is a problem, but i'm sure MM and TC would work on that - if we signed him that is.

BUZZING for this new season now!! COYB!

Hopefully he can develop into a good player for us. I like that we haven't signed anyone that's 30 or above yet. It certainly feels like Mick is building for the future, not just next season.

It may be a sad goodbye Jack, but I'd just like to say a big HELLO from all us Town fans.
Welcome to Portman Road Mr Doherty.

Nice to see another for the future joining up.
Just a thought that I didn't see mentioned in the Berra story posts,
With the current trend for players & their agents to hold out for moves to the highest offer that comes along,
I think it was good advertising for Titus to be seen in the shop window (training here) to possibly get a better deal else where.
But also helps Mick to put pressure on the player he REALLY wants to sign to take the plunge with us before we change our minds & sign one of the trialists !
I think the cunning old fox has just helped Berra make up his mind to join us instead of holding out for a better deal, then missing the boat!
Or am I crediting Big Mick & Titus with to much credit?

@Beatties: I suggested that very thing on the Titus story, but received a number of minuses for such temerity.
Mick has played a blinder this summer & gotten in most of the players he wanted (presuming he did want Judge) and at the wages the club was prepared to offer. I still think the comments from Jackett at Wolves, re: Stearman during the week, came because Ipswich appear to have moved on with other targets (on frees) lined up. We still need 1 more defender to come in if we are to have cover in each position & I would rule nothing out with Mick.

This lad will be a very good player. Need's time though. One for the future for certain.

Another young player with potential - hopefully will be a success. I like the mixture of youthful signings with those with more experience (but not over 30). Can't wait to the start of the season to see if the team gel! COYB

Sorry didn't see that one ! Can't understand why you should get minuses for suggesting big mick has his head screwed on!
Unfortunately there are so many on here that can't see a compliment when it hits them in the face! unless it's accompanied by "Mick I Love You" In neon Lights.
Not to mention the jokes that fly straight over their heads.
Your probably right about Jacket, But , if you will excuse me, I think we have cover now for the back four in three players, now that we have Vaselie who can cover fullback & central. four players who can play central & four who can play fullback.
Just to cover my arse I'm counting Veslie Twice for those that think I can't count!
That might help keep the players that are not in the team from getting restless if they think they have more options than just one slot.
..........Just waiting for the surprise signing of Mr Sharp to put the cherry on the cake!

I think it is Veseli (not Veselie, Vaselie or Veslie)

Big Mick, is going quietly about his job, no boasts, bragging or pipe dreams, he is steadily building what looks to be a good squad, at last we are moving away from ''has beens'' and the uncertainty of loan players.I honestly think this is the start of a new era,a move forward at last.COYB

Very good signing with lot of quality to build on but Think one more top quality signing is a must for automatic promotion

@Beatties: Fair enough, I was looking at having 2 players for each spot, so Hewitt & Veseli for rightback, Cresswell & Mings for left back but only the trio of Chambers, Smith & Berra for the 2 centre half spot. I take your point on the versatiity of some of our players, including Veseli & Mings to play centre half if needs be.
I would still like Stearman to join, as he is equally adept at right back or right sided centre half. While I"m excited by good young talent such as Hewitt, I'm not sure he is ready to be a regular starter at right back & I 'm not convinced Mick is either; he may see him as a wing back or right winger. Having the defensive quality of Stearman, & indeed Orr before him, was hugely important in stablising the back four last season and helped Chambers & Smith to concentrate on becoming the great partnership they were in the second half of the season, in my opinion.
That was missing when Carlis was played there out of position. I am hoping that Veseli will prove to be a defender first and a 'turning defence into attack' type of full back second.
Anyway, this story is about a promising young winger, who I wish all the best in an Ipswich shirt. Edward & Anderson now have Carson, Lawrence & Doherty to push them, as back up for the wideman roles.

This is just absolutely fabulous. I dreamt, wished and yearned for days like this when RK and PJ were in charge. Unfortunately, they never came.

On another point. I looked at the odds on ITFC for promotion and you do not seem to be able to beat 7/1. Never mind. Just get us up. (a. coyb)

Mick is building a nice little team with at least two players covering every position and I don't think he is finished yet
But please all this talk about promotion lets not get carried away because theirs a lot of new players in the team and it will take time to get to know each other and they have got to gel as a team
Of cause most of this will be done on the training field
We must get off to a good start not like last season propping up the table for ages with just 7 points
But its different this time with our great new Manager and not a team of loan players so come on lets all get behind the team and cheer them on
COME ON YOU BLUES

@Beattiesballbag - Billy Sharp would indeed be something to get excited about. Looks like I will be F5'ing my way until August!

@ Beattiesballbag- I've also got a gut feeling of getting Billy Sharp. If the reports are true Chopra could be away to Sheff Wed, Sharp would be an ideal replacement & on cheaper wages!! COYB
