Vote Mills as Greatest Ever Captain
Wednesday, 14th Aug 2013 08:19

Prostate Cancer UK, the official charity partner of the Football League, has asked bloggers, journalists and fans to nominate their team's all-time top skipper as they look for the Football League’s greatest-ever captain.

Prostate cancer results in 10,000 deaths every year in the UK. So this season Prostate Cancer UK is asking fans to put aside their differences and become Men United in the fight against the disease.

To lead Men United, and to kick off the 2013/14 Football League season, they're searching for an inspirational figurehead - the Football League's greatest captain.

TWTD was in little doubt about Town’s all-time top captain when we were asked — Mick Mills. You can read what we said here and find out more about Men United and vote for the man who held aloft the FA and UEFA Cups here.

The first round of voting closes on Tuesday 20th August. The top five captains will then enter a play-off. Each will then receive the backing of one of the country's leading football writers, who'll tell the nation why they should vote for their choice of skipper.

Done. My personal non ITFC captain was Brian Kilkline - sure him and Butcher are blood brothers as they are cut from the same cloth!

I'm a life long town fan however surly the best ever captain has to be Bobby Moore whether its football league or not, West Ham were not a premier league side when he lifted the World Cup for England .

Good point fussysnake but thankfully he is not in the list so I don't have to have those loyalty issues, But in fact if we are looking at football league captains and not could international duties surely Mick Would even be great than the late great Mr Moore.

Gibbo. I have always thought that Mick Mills was a far better England Captain and a better defender than Bobby Moore who, to my knowledge, was caught in possession, not once, but twice, in International matches which is something that should never happen.

Bill blue much as I admire your loyalty to Mick, Bobby Moore was peerless. Caught in possession twice in over 100 internationals? Wow almost criminal. You are talking about the greatest defender this country has seen . You should read how he was admired by Shankley amongst others. But hey I'm sure you are right

ReallyBillBlue. Im influenced by that guy in Mexico in 1970 when we played Brazil who described Moore as the greatest defender in the world. I seem to remember the embrace after the game. What was his name ? Oh yes it was only Pele. Show some respect man

Fatcatevans. What is the matter with you man? I have shown no disrespect whatsoever. I have expressed my personal opinion which is based on what I have witnessed over many years. For that you attack me and consider that your opinion, based on hearsay - according to your quotes - is a sounder opinion than mine! I would suggest you try to mature and start thinking for yourself then you might have an opinion.

I wasn't attacking you. You consider Mick a better England captain and defender than Moore. despite being a town fan I don't. There's no hearsay in my argument.

Then why did you not say just that? You must forgive me for thinking your argument was hearsay after your quoting the comments of two other people, may I suggest if you are stating your opinion you say just that, then it might not seem you are attacking people.
