Palace Made Cresswell Move Monday, 19th Aug 2013 23:09 Town are understood to have turned down a bid from Crystal Palace for left-back Aaron Cresswell.
The offer, believed to be in the region of £3 million, is understood to have come before the Eagles added former Bordeaux left-back Florian Marange to their squad at the end of last week, a move which is likely to have ended their interest in the 23-year-old.
The newly-promoted side were first mentioned in connection with Cresswell in June, while a number of other clubs, including Fulham, Southampton, Wigan and Aston Villa, who made an enquiry last summer, were also been linked during the close season.
Cresswell, who is contracted to Town until June 2015, joined the Blues from Tranmere at the end of his terms at Prenton Park in the summer of 2011.
Rovers are entitled to 20% of the profit Town would make on the £420,000 they paid for the Liverpudlian if he is sold. A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.
Town boss Mick McCarthy recently said that Cresswell is "the best left-back in the Championship".
Meanwhile, former Blues midfielder Tommy Miller, 34, has joined League Two Bury on a one-year deal having left Swindon at the end of last season.

..Sell him for 10 million and then buy a prolific goalscorer from a lower division for future development Bristol City have got one.... top scorer on 3 goals in three games....think he is nick named JET....anyone heard of him?? ....and on a serious note.....lets not sell him unless the money is stupid amounts....we were able to pick him up for a bargain and are getting great service out of him so hes paid his fee in spades.....where we need to concentrate on getting proportionate returns from those that havent worked out....and the money raised on these is dreadful seem to eager just to let go. (whose managing contracts etc....do we have a sell on clause for JET should he trun out to be brilliant!!) .....and on another note am I the only one that is growing concerned about the amount of debt that MM is placing on the club??...at £71m we are stuffed if he walks away but why is the board allowing this to happen....we have a great deal to be thankful of that he underwrote our original debt but every penny he is spending he is not giving us he is placing as debt and no doubt getting a very healthy interest return from the club in lieu of the debt....its starting to ring a few alarm bells with me......but it could just be the SW air!!

On the basis that we could sign a very good player for £8-£10k per week that is circa £500k pa if signed on a free as per most of our dealings so far. Assuming £4 million in up front cash hen Mick could easily sign 4/5 more very good players if he wanted to or go for more like 3/4 more between loans, free and perhaps a transfer fee for Stearman ? Mick has almost been over the top in his praise for Mings and that might be to keep the natives quiet if/when Cresswell goes.

....hhhhmmmm think my negative marks have been made by spotty 12 yr olds...albeit take some responsibility for writing MM instead of ME!! (before marking it down read reports about PMouth/Rangers etc...their debt wasnt much greater than ours....PS they are stories that you wont find in Match magazine or Heat!!)

We need to hold on to Cresswell - can't see the money being spent on players - so best to keep one of our assets. Unless that is, the bid is higher and guaranteed to be invested on the squad.
