Mings Signs New Contract
Tuesday, 27th Aug 2013 18:19

Defender Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract with the Blues taking him to the summer of 2015 with an option for a further season. The 20-year-old joined Town from non-league Chippenham in December, signing an initial deal which took him up to the end of this season.

The left-back or centre-half told the club site: “I was delighted to sign my first contract here but to know the manager has shown confidence in me and wants me to stay is a big bonus.

“It gives me some stability, knowing my future is sorted for the next few years but I can’t rest on my laurels.

“The manager has told me to carry on doing what I’m doing and it’s down to me to get into the first team and look to play as many games as possible and at some stage in the future, win another deal to stay here.”

Mings, who is currently out of action with a knee injury, made his senior debut on the final day of last season at Burnley with his other first team appearance coming at Reading on the opening day of this campaign.

Exactly what quality have Doncaster and Huddersfield added because I can't see it. Certainly no better than what we've added.

It's about the academy now, not big transfers so get used to it. The only way there will be cash is if we sell or we have a windfall somewhere. I'm all for this.

Oh No we're going to hell in a handcart! How dare anyone suggest that we go out and spend a little bit of money like the majority of other clubs have done in this league! No, not for us! We must wear a hair shirt and stay on the moral high ground whilst other clubs are out investing some cash in buying quality players. Heavens forbid if we did, we might even be able to compete and that simply wont do as we are good old Ipswich who always stick by the rules while others are shafting us!

I really wish some of you would wake up and smell the coffee! We are being asked to pay the cost of a premiership ticket to watch a poor championship team and most of you seem to be delighted. Welcome to Ipswich Tyrone you will fit in well with all the other no marks we have signed this summer!

jwm. what a prize pratt you are. me has spent millions since he took over this club and the already huge debt incurred by messrs sheepshanks and burley. he has backed every manager hes had with large sums of money and they've let him down by buying players that haven't performed. this summer with the ffp in effect(and no, you cant just write that off as bollox as you seem to think), hes decided on a more prudent approach to signing players. people keep going on about the fact weve paid no money out for transfer fees? no, but that's because the players weve signed were out of contract. had they not been I dare say we would have had to spend a fair bit to have signed them in fees. as it is we would have spent a fair amount neway as these palyers would have commanded a signing on fee, plus their salary, which certainly will not be £5k a week or they wouldn't have signed. be more in the region of £8-£10k. so, the money we saved on martin, chopra, jet would have nowhere near covered the wages we now paying out. plus, you have to remember that me can only put in £6m this season, so with the extra money for the academy plus the players weve signed. and indeed the money he'll be putting in merely to keep the club running(as he does every year), we cannot pay out big fees for players, unless we sell some1 1st. and lets be honest, the only player on our books at this moment who would command a big fee is cresswell. so it may be we have to sell him in order to strenghthen the squad just as we did kieron dyer some years ago. no1 wanted us to sell him, but his sale basically got us promoted with the players we bought from his transfer. and while I basically agree with your point jwm, about progression since me arrived. no, up until last season I agree, we hadn't moved forwards at all. id think that we are now taking the 1st steps forward and we as fans need to stop griping and get behind the club, even if we have to suffer the pain of losing a player that none of us really wants to lose.

I would much rather we have a manager with the nous to realise that teams need to be built over a period and allowed to grow . From all of the movement of players by MM over the summer, and the ages of the majority of them , MM is here for the long haul as they are mainly younger players who will be allowed to grow and develop over time . This is how he has worked in the past and should be allowed to get on with it as he knows more about the needs of the club than we do ! After the spendthrift ways of the two previous managers ME is surely going to be more wary , especially with FFP , of wasting money . I am sure if MM was to need to buy , or spend on a loan or two , ME would give him the money . I may be wrong in my thinking but I feel MM has a couple of signings lined up for the end of the window but is keeping his cards close to his chest so that the moves do not get hi-jacked .

Look guys I'm not suggesting that we try and spend millions on transfers but what I am saying is that we need at least 2 quality players up front and unfortunately most of the decent ones will atrract a fee. All this talk about going the same way as Pompey and Coventry if we go out and spend some money is just nonsense. We now have a manager that knows what he's doing and if ME did give him a £1Million bonus for keeping us up why can't he spend the same on some reinforcements?

Keanish I would take Vaughan over any of our forwards ?
And Meekreech if you think MM will stay around with no money and fighting relegation again this season you are mistaken ,long haul ? He will be off as soon as there is a better offer .
Each season we stay in the league it gets harder as there are another 3 teams added who all have more money than us which is why you must spend just to be mid table , we have not and have IMO weakened the squad and we will be in the dogfight again along with other non spenders Barnsley,Charlton,Millwall , Sheff Weds and Yeovil

JWM - Adam clayton was a freebie and has an injury history longer than our entire squad and Vaughan has had a solid start to the season but if any if you tell me that pre-season he'd have been the 'quality' striker we need then it's a lie to make your argument better!!

Besides, Vaughan has a worse scoring record than any of our strikers and he's ex-scum! No ta.

JMW - which other clubs in the Championship have spent "millions", apart from those with parachute payments and Nottingham Forest? So far this summer, 77% of transfers to clubs in this division have been free or loans.

Vaughan is a very talented striker but it won't be long before he gets sick again......
Like Keaneish has stated- not the answer to our striker issues.
Kevin Doyle on-loan for a season and Ebanks-Blake on a 1 year contract- that's the answer
