Lee Nets as U21s Draw
Friday, 6th Sep 2013 15:23

Alan Lee and Jack Marriott scored the goals as Town’s U21s drew 2-2 with Fulham at their Motspur Park training ground in a friendly this afternoon.

The 35-year-old headed the Blues in front in the third minute but Dino Islamovic equalised for the home side two minutes later.

Marriott put Town back in front on nine, but Islamovic completed the scoring four minutes after the break. Late on, Town hit the woodwork.

Lee, who returned to the club as an academy coach in the summer, recently signed non-contract terms with the Blues.

Today's goal was his second for the U21s in friendlies, the Irishman having scored in the 1-0 victory over Colchester in pre-season.

Aside from the likes of Lee, Paul Taylor and Frederic Veseli, it was largely an academy squad which faced the Cottagers. Like the first team, Town’s U18s have this weekend off.

Tony Mowbray scored his last goal in his last match to bring us level to eventually get us promoted in the 2000 playoff final at the age of 36. Does anyone seriously think we should have been playing a promising youth instead? If Lee can do a job then I trust MM to spot it and pick him.

On the partnerships front, I think Lee and McGoldrick would be a little slow and defenses would push up knowing they couldn't spring the offside trap. We need a bit of pace with a goal threat and the only likely candidates are Taylor and Nouble. Nouble looks like 1 goal could spark him on a bit of a run but I can't see where it's coming from just now and Taylor had pace in his first 2 games for us but he's been out a long while.

Answers on a postcard!

Unfortunately, Alan Lee has only scored 20 goals in the last 5 years, and he's 36 next August.

Maybe this is the start of a epic forward partnership...Marriott an Lee 55 goals between them at the end of the season firing us into play-off contention, then they combine to score the winner at Wembley...Sorry...too much?

I say put Lee in against boro and see what he does, if he's no good we haven't lost anything through trying BUT if he nets a couple may be it will give our younger front players a kick up the ars.

I like Alan Lee. He might be 35 but he still offers alot. Although he aint a player who will play 90 minutes he can do some damange when given the chance. I do think its brilliant that Lee partners Marriott because who better to improve your game off than Alan Lee. He can teach Marriott so much. I would like to see Marriott given a chance in the team, even if its just 10 minutes here and there. The next Jordan Rhodes. Let's just hope Town don't make a mistake and sell him.

I cant believe that some of you are hoping for Alan Lee to save our season.
He isnt very good at all. He is less than avarage.
Some of you are talking as if he was an ITFC hero.
He is trying to make some extra cash from wherever he can because no other club want him. Not even Hudersfield.

I cant believe we have given him another go. all be it on play and pay contract I believe.
