Anderson a Doubt for Blackpool Trip
Thursday, 7th Nov 2013 14:58

Midfielder Paul Anderson has emerged as an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s trip to Blackpool, while the Blues will definitely be without Aaron Cresswell, who is suspended for two games following his red card after the final whistle against Barnsley last week.

Boss Mick McCarthy revealed that Anderson had suffered a problem in training: “We’re all alright, Ando’s got a bit of a groin problem, but we’ll see how he is.

"He had to come off in training. He hasn’t trained today, we’ll wait and see how he is tomorrow.

“That’s the only injury problem we have but, of course, we haven’t got Cressy because he’s suspended.”

Skipper Carlos Edwards will return to the Town starting line-up if Anderson doesn’t make it and may in any case have been recalled with McCarthy admitting that he’s likely to make changes after a couple of poor performances.

The Blues boss has no doubt that Tyrone Mings will prove an able deputy for Cresswell: “Ty will be fine. I’ve no worries at all about him.

“That’s the nice thing about having back-up players of that qualify. Sad to lose Cressy, it was just a silly set of circumstances but it happened and Ty will be fine.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy reminded reporters that he had told them who the new manager of the Republic of Ireland would be in September after Giovanni Trapattoni’s exit: “I told you in here six weeks ago what was going to happen and you kept badgering me.

"It was Martin ONeill’s to turn down, it was his gig, in my view, and I don’t think he was ever turning it down. I might be wrong, they might tell me it’s different. I said he was a shoo-in and that was the case.”

However, he repeatedly refused point blank to give his thoughts on the O’Neill-Roy Keane Republic of Ireland management team when asked.

Is it as bad as Marriotts turned ankle that kept him out of squad against Barnsley but improved next day so he could score a couple. It's so much spin these days

No one ever passes to Ando anyway, he's non-existent on the right wing

Oh no total disaster. How on earth are we going to get a result at Blackpool without our wizard on the wing

This could be a blessing in disguise as him and Hyam have been our least effective players recently.Could be partly because McCarthy has told him to defend and play narrow which came out a while back in an interview.

He tries hard but doesn't really bring anything else worthy to the table for me. Think Tunnicliffe and Skuse will be in the middle with Tabb on the left on Saturday. I'd like to see Wordsworth and Taylor play on the wings but that's not going to happen.

Lets hope it doesn't get better by Saturday because we need a few different faces in the team. Edwards would be a sideways move. We need Wordsworth and Taylor then perhaps our midfield would get forward a bit quicker but we would have to play with the ball on the deck hopefully! Hyam or murphy rested.

Anderson has been disappointing so far this season. He also seems somewhat injury prone. We need new players in midfield - but whether a short term option is the answer - time will tell.

He looks 'lightweight' too...disappointing replacement for Martin (can't really say that as Mick hasn't been playing him there).

still can't believe we swapped emmanuel-thomas for him, what was mick thinking? and what does he see in anderson to start him every game? emmanuel-thomas was creative and mick is not, wordsworth in now

Anderson has been an abject failure, don't know if it's because he's not playing his natural roll or he's U/S. My mates in Bristol seem to think the latter & are more than happy with the deal MM gave them. We could try to get Lisbie back short term at least he knows how to score.

Edwards to return to the starting line-up!?
Are you sure Phil? I'd have thought Taylor would have been given the nod over Edwards.

All those years without a left back and now we have two, like buses.
Give Taylor a chance on the right wing now, but would he be better in the middle just behind the front 2 still not sure about Taylor as the Posh fans were not that impressed by him, yet Ferguson and McCarthy think highly of him.
As it seems Taylor did not impress the Posh fans as could be the same about Anderson, is he better than Edwards, not sure but you can't expect world beater when you buy half the team from a poor Championship side for free.
Tunicliffe in the middle instead of Hyam as I feel Hyam needs a rest, Taylor on the right with Hunt on the left for me
Hard game Blackpool
