Woody Close to Rotherham Move
Friday, 3rd Jan 2014 09:54

Blues midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is understood to be close to joining League One Rotherham United on loan.

The 25-year-old’s opportunities have been limited since joining the Blues from Colchester a year ago and this season he has made only two fleeting substitute appearances.

Before the November deadline, the Londoner came close to joining Saturday’s FA Cup opponents Preston North End on loan but the clubs were unable to agree a deal with the MK Dons, former club Colchester and others understood to have been monitoring his situation.

Speaking this morning, Millers boss Steve Evans told the Rotherham club site that he was close to making some additions to his squad: “The window is open and we are close with one or two deals.

“I can’t say too much about what is happening at the moment but as soon as anything is confirmed I will let the fans know. It promises to be a busy couple of days.”

With the amount of Players we have going out on loan I think some new signings are being eyed up

we have so few midfield options, mick must be bringing in more as he wouldn't be sending woody out if not. shame for woody tho cause he was doing rather well when he first came to town, then got a bit of an injury and hasn't been given a chance since

This lad needs games - make or break loan spell.

Sensible move to get proper football. I wonder if this is with a view to a permanent move though? If not I doubt we'll get someone else in but hopefully we'll see Byron Lawrence in and around the first team squad. We're a club that must look to our kids rather than expensive signings.

Wasn't it PJ who signed him?

Strange decision for me. Mick signed wordsworth so must have scouted him accordingly so knew what he was getting. Should have been in the midfield alongside 1 of skuse/hyam, preferrably skuse coz he does hyam's job but just a bit better. Would suggest signings lined up

This seems perfect. I bet MM will be getting a new loanee at midfield and that's what we really really need. Skuse, tunnicliffe and hyam aren't enough, and we need to get better midfielders if we're going to stay in the play-offs. COYB!

Ive been bemused all season as to how little Wordsworth has been used. Our midfield is very ordinary at best and offers nothing in the way of a goal threat.A good move for him but a bad move for us!

With Woody going on loan & Graham gone back to Villa it should mean that a new creative influence in midfield is set to join during the window. We are ok for solid, defensive minded options across the pitch, but there is a gaping need for someone who can unlock stubborn defenses with a bit of skill & keen eye for that killer pass.
