Hyam: Big Game at Millwall
Saturday, 18th Jan 2014 06:00

Midfielder Luke Hyam has stressed the need for a positive outcome at Millwall today after Town suffered successive league and cup defeats in the space of three days.

The club’s proud nine-game unbeaten run in both competitions was ended by QPR’s win at Portman Road last Saturday then followed by defeat in Tuesday’s FA Cup third round replay at Preston.

Town shipped three goals in each game and will be looking to keep things a lot tighter at the back when they provide the opposition for what will be new Millwall manager Ian Holloway’s first home game in charge.

Academy graduate Hyam, 22, said: “Obviously, it was very disappointing to drop out of the FA Cup and also last Saturday to lose to QPR, which meant the end of our unbeaten record.

“Saturday’s trip to Millwall is a big game because we need to get back to winning ways and the sooner the better. I don’t think we played badly in the two games we lost but we conceded six goals and we want to put that behind us.

“It will be Ian Holloway’s first home game in charge of Millwall and that’s going to give them a boost, but we need to concentrate on ourselves and we need to look at where we have gone wrong in the last two games. I’m sure we can get a positive result down there.”

Like the loyal fans who made the 500-mile round trip to Lancashire in midweek, Hyam and his team-mates did not return home until early morning after their FA Cup exit at Deepdale.

He added: “It was a bit of a nightmare and everyone slept most of the way back. We were all bitterly disappointed but all we can do now is look forward to the game at Millwall.

"Tuesday has gone — we’ve looked at the game, we’ve looked at the goals we conceded and now we have to rectify our mistakes and get ready to go again.”

Agree. Need to win this game today, after two losses, it's important we don't lose ground on the top 6 with let's face it tougher looking games coming up.
