Hyam Sidelined for a Fortnight Monday, 20th Jan 2014 17:23 Midfielder Luke Hyam will be out of action for at least two weeks with scans confirming that a deep cut just below his right knee was the full extent of the injury he suffered during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Millwall.
The 22-year-old was stretchered off in the eighth minute of the game at the Den after a challenge with ex-Blue and fellow former Northgate High School pupil Liam Trotter. He was taken to hospital in London before being released on Saturday evening.
Town physio Matt Byard told the club site: “Luke’s had a scan on the knee and that’s all clear.
“The hospital washed out the cut, which is just below the knee, and then stitched up the wound.
“It’s a deep cut and there is some heavy bruising around the area as well. He’s on crutches and we have to be careful that the knee doesn’t get infected.
“If all goes well, you are looking at around two weeks before he can get out on the training ground again.”
Earlier today, a clearly frustrated Hyam tweeted: “You don't appreciate certain things until they get taken away from you #cantmove.”

Hopefully McCarthy will now sign a more attack-minded midfielder and give them a chance to take his place. Competition never hurt anyone.

We are a better team with Hyam in it. What he does isn't pretty, but every good side has a holding player that breaks up the play and gives the ball to others to create. Look at Arsenal for example, how many people thought signing Mathieu Flamini was a joke? He's turned out to be just what Arsenal have missed for years. For all their creative ability, they needed a bit of a rat in midfield to simply put in the hard work.

Gash to them knee..must have come from a studs up challenge..just another thing the ref got wrong or missed on Saturday..was without doubt the most incompetent refereeing display i have ever seen,Not helped by two incompetent linesmen..Believe me he made andy durso look like the best ref in the world in comparison !!

Michael11 mick is trying to bring out an attacking side in hyam's game that for some reason he see's and we dont. He think's he has more to his game than just a holding midfielder. To me he is just a holding midfielder and is being asked to attack and create which he isn't strong at. Thats not knocking the lad

Hyam will be missed while he's away. But even when he returns he will only be 60% of the player we actually need in that role. He is still learning his trade and has a lot to learn! Just DO NOT REPLACE HIM WITH JAY TABB please...we cannot compete when he plays. Use this opportunity to try something more creative.

Totally agree with most of the commenets on - Surco ( excellent ) etc from folk on here who watch fooyball from a Non XBOX/PS2 playing viewpoint - Luke Hyam is a defensive midfielder , and had been doing a good job in there . What we do need is Creative players , something Luke isnt - but he has a great future ahead of him - I HOPE - As long as the boo boys get off his back ! not surprised his form dipped when he gets booed. The club are pushing for Cat 1 Academy and we will be seeing more local / academy players coming thru - I dread to think what will happen to poor old Jack Marriott if he misses afew chances Lets get behind him and the rest of the Academy products - it is the future Of course use them around quality - which we do have at the Back(TS,AC,LC.CB,EH) and up front (DM) Skuse is good in there - PS Moussa and Clarke would be a great addition from Coventry They can have Nouble and Tabb on loan

The idiots abound again, glad there are some 'fans' on here who recognise Hyam's worth to the team. He has and will keep imroving and I for one hope he is a regular fixture in the team for some time. As already pointed out, there are countless supposed 'not good enough' players who have left for bigger and better things and ply their trade in our top league. Get well soon Luke.

I think Hyam recognises the fact that some of his game criticism is valid and he needs to be more attack minded and creative - we must not over look the fact that he has been playing to instructions, hence his recent comments on the issue. Not enough importance put on a creative midfield - far too much long ball in the air stuff, almost bypassing midfield .
