Blues Linked With Baird
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2014 10:30

Town, Nottingham Forest, Brighton and Reading are all reported to have shown interest in Northern Ireland international defender Chris Baird, who is a free agent following a short-term deal with the Royals.

Centre-half or right-back Baird, 31, moved to the Madejski Stadium in September but injuries have restricted him to only nine appearances and he is currently reported to be out of action with a knee problem for several more weeks.

It seems unlikely that the Blues, who want to add to their defensive options during January, would show any serious interest while the former Southampton and Fulham man is sidelined.

Elsewhere, Town continue to be linked with former defender Titus Bramble with Mick McCarthy understood to be considering offering the 32-year-old a short-term contract, as we reported on Friday.

Why would Mick be interested in a full back that didn't make the grade at another Championship play off rival? If he isn't good enough for a promotion push then why bother signing him?

I cant see Hewitt putting on another Town shirt again, how sad :(

More worryingly........It doesn't look like we've got any money to spend at all :(

Mmrmorisato - if more Town fans actually went to a home game we would have money to spend. You need to blame those Town fans for not supporting the team for our lack of transfer money

You need to blame the club for their high prices and the players for under performing for the lack of support. Money is tight for most people and when they spend it they want to be entertained not feel like they have been ripped off. Powers of be must seriously think about offering some real quality deals to get the fans into the ground. We are not the best team in the championship but one of the most expensive to support so something has to be changed sooner rather than later.

If he's injury prone and out for "several more weeks" there's not much point is there?

This is just a short term solution to add experience and back-up to the right-back position. MM will play Hewitt when he is ready, so it's a bit silly to panic that Hewitt may never play for us again!

Offer a trial when fit maybe, good cover for the defence when fit he is a good player at this level. As for Bramble I would like to see him on a pay as you play deal, plenty of experience at premiership level, if you leave his off the field problems aside he is a very good defender.

I disagree. Many of us on here do attend games and pay the exorbitant ticket prices to support our team and therefore should be allowed an opinion of what we are seeing. We need some midfield creativity, the defensive approach obviously isn't working if you look at the number of games we've thrown away of a lead in this season. Our midfield seem unconfident in pushing on and play negative passes sideways and backwards, no wonder the likes of cresswell is playing the long ball over the top. If you look at many of the teams we've played this season, Leicester for example, they play the ball through midfield... That's what we need. I'm realistic and don't expect us to be play-off or promoted this season but to push forward we do need to be more positive in our play.

The club must be mad to offer the above mentioned player any chance of putting on a town shirt again.WHAT has gone wrong with this club?it looks as though it's being run by incompetent people who don't care about the club.I can now understand why gates are falling.MMis doing his best without support from above.I for one cannot afford to take my three children to games anymore and I have been a town man for 45 years. It's very sad to say but I think this is the case with many people.

please no - why cant we try and sign some talent or at the start of each season sort out 1-3 loan deals (inpostions we need) where we get a good prem youngster for a season.
lots of other clubs do it.

This pricing structure at Portman rd is nothing short of madness!! I live in North Norfolk, and would love to attend more games but being disabled living on a pittance having worked all my life until injury, there is no way that i can attend more than a couple a year, fuel and ticket prices just keep me away.
ME has stated more times than enough that the prem is where he wants ITFC to be! in reality it just ain,t gonna happen, and i,m rather glad that it won,t as we with the current squad we would get torn apart at every game!
So you have not got to an accountant, lower the price,s, get bums on seats, sell more pie,s and pints, and invest in players, and that is not gonna happen either!
Sadly i fear another mid table finish, yet another year of high expectations only to be kicked in the gonads!!

PS it was not that many years ago that 20,000 attendance was considered a low gate!!

essex boy...total hogwash..if your kids are under 11 you pay £10 a SEASON!! for a season ticket per child and then £480 per season for a season ticket for yourself,on an interest free direct debit at £40 a month..PEANUTS!!!...while i agree match by match basis is overpriced,Just over 20 quid a game for yourself and 3 kids to go every week..BARGAIN !!!..while people constantly criticise towns prices the fact they do this deal for the future town fans always goes unnoticed.
Marcus if your reading this & want a pr man im your man !!

We have 3 centre backs - surely a decent creative midfielder or a wide man who can skin a full back should be a priority. Sad times that the bank is empty after Keane and Jewell wasted it all. Then again ME has to take the blame for hiring them. Just ironic that we finally have a decent manager and ME can't give him the funds.

Lack of support is not always down to the players ,manager, owner etc,The cost of going to matches is a big fracture.A large majority of supporters come from outside the town so you have to fracture in travel costs as well. It's all very well if you live in the town and can leave your house at 14.30 on a match day. It's very expensive when you have a family, like most of us.All this talk about if more fans went there would be more money available .Do you REALLY believe that.Check the rules and you will understand we cannot spend money otherwise we will be penalised.Football is a business now .

oldbluestu, having supported the town for nearly 35 years now, I am sadly in a position where I literally can't afford to go to as many games as I want. I would love to, believe me. Many happy memories of following the town around the country for a good 25 of those years, with highlights such as breaking down on the way back from Shrewsbury on a Monday night after a Simod Cup game (I think), getting home at 6.30 in the morning and then going off to work at 7.30. Sadly, money is tight for a lot of families, and weekly or fortnightly football can be a little too much for some of us to justify. It doesn't mean those who aren't at every game don't care just as much as the die hard regulars. Afterall, we all want the same thing......us in the Premier looking down on Norwich in the Championship. COYB

Is this what we've become? The home of 30+ journeymen footballers on free transfers. No investment, no ambition.

Welcome to the Marcus Evans era.

Regarding lack of support at games: Like others on here, I simply cannot afford to attend as often as I would like. If that makes me a bad fan in the opinion of others then so be it. Ticket prices can only go so high before I draw the line and stop attending altogether.

I love some of these posts...so devoid of any factual basis that they are entertaining, but only if you don't take them seriously.
But one interesting point is ticket prices...I believe, and I may be wrong, that prices in Germany are a lot cheaper than the UK and consequently grounds are fuller. There must be a balance where reducing prices gets more fans in and therefore income actually goes up, but it's a big risk for any club to take. We would like to think that fans would return, but we don't KNOW for certain, and I wonder if anyone has done some research on the viability of it working in the championship? It's one thing to do a survey of armchair fans who may well say that they would buy tickets if prices were reduced, but I suspect that going to matches is a habit, and once fans stay away for a while and get out of that habit it's pretty difficult to persuade them to return.

I have been a season ticket holder for many a year and can even remember when you got 4 or more vouchers at certain games to get fa cup tickets my point is im lucky I have my own business and doing ok but have also been when I havnt got money to buy paper to wipe my backside so what im trying to say is mr evans 13000 14000 empty seats a game going spare give them away even at a pound a ticket fill the ground look after the town fans as they just might come back and buy a season ticket when things get better
