I'd say it's looking more at young players who are available to see which ones could progress into the first team. I see no reason to be cynical about it meaning players are on their way out.

2-1 loss, Alan lee with our goal, everyone calling for him for first 11, and Garvan 2, everyone slagging off Mick saying we should have got him.. Can see it happening

Good luck to the triallists.

Perhaps Garvan will have a good game and impress Mick. He's more creative than Tunnicliffe and has 23 league goals to his name, which is 23 more than Tunnicliffe.

To any young trialist coming into this club thinking they are going to get a break, think again.
Has any of the youngsters signed since MM arrived shown anything near as to breaking into the first team, apart from MM "love chid" - Frank Nouble.

Just back from the game. we were 1 - 0 up and lost 1 - 2. Alan Lee only lasted 20 minutes before he had to come off, sorry but he's finished. I had hoped to see who if anyone was a good prospect to step up to the 1st team. On tonight's showing - no one! Taylor for me did nothing, looked light weight and was easily knocked of the ball and did not go into any 50/50's. He looked short of puff and gave up too easily. I cringed when his fan club made up of little boys kept chanting his name and clapping every time he touched the ball. Sorry but he is not the answer to our dreams boys! Wordsworth played in the middle and hardly worked up a sweat. As for Garvan he did score, with a poorly struck free kick just outside the area that beat Loach to his right. He should have saved it. Garvan was slow but proved he could still spray the ball around. He's not the answer either. It says something when Taylor was our biggest front man for most of the 2nd half. Apart from our back line we are a team of midgets, apart from Wordsworth in the centre. If this is the pick of talent on show for the future, it's very poor and no one is good enough to step up automatically into the 1st team. With no money to spend and a poor playing staff it is not looking good for the future of ITFC.

Agree Steelmonkey, where is the young talent Town were once so famous for bringing on. Why isn't Marriott in our first team, I know people say "he's not ready" but he's at least scoring goals, which is more than can be said for Nouble, Murphy, S.E.B, Taylor... I fear we're at that stage in the season when we're safe enough but are resigned to the fact we won't make the play offs so lethargy has set in. MM's playing for too many draws, the 15,000 are yawning in the stands & there's a lack of passion, & effort from the players. Time for a change? Somewhere somehow?

That's why we have an academy then!

Once we have enough points to be deemed safe, why not play those that should be the future of the club. What's the point of finishing mid table with a team that doesn't entertain. At least the youngsters would get valuable experience of playing in the Championship.
Perhaps MM fears the worst as we can't seem to beat the likes of most of the under21's we have played against even with experienced over age "first teamers" in the side.
