Timlin Joins Derry City
Wednesday, 5th Mar 2014 16:01

Released first-year pro Mark Timlin has joined Derry City, who play in the Republic of Ireland's Airtricity Premier Division.

Last month, former Irish U16 international winger Timlin, 19, was told he wouldn’t be offered new terms by the Blues when his contract is up at the end of the season, along with David October, Jordan Adekunle, Tom Winter and Jonny Leddy. None of the five had made a first team appearance.

October, who spent time on loan at Histon earlier in the season, hopes to join a student athlete programme at a university in the United States.

Also currently with Derry City looking to win a contract is former Town midfielder Cormac Burke, who was released by the Blues a year ago.

Judging by the size of the clubs that these released players are joining, the reason to release them looks justified. They just aren't good enough to play at championship level in fact some of them might drop into non-league or drop out of football altogether. Its a sad but true indication of where Town's academy is in terms of the quality of players it is producing at the moment. Mr Klug has work to do to get Town's academy back to the level capable of producing players like Wright, Bramble, Dyer, Rhodes and Wickham.

Roddy Collins is a shrewd manager and knows a good player when he sees one. Derry city are more likely than Ipswich to be playing European football in the near future. Have to say I thought October had great potential.

Oh popeye you're right such a very sad case it is FOR THESE PLAYERS NOT TO BE GOOD ENOUGH!!! But the reason why they're not good enough is because they're not getting their chances. This accademy has been a shambles for years with the ever changing staff and managers who are only interested in loan players. I have watched these boys for years and i can tell you now with a manager like Mc Carthy none of our future players have got no chance .......

League of Ireland is a good standard with top teams similar to top league 1 and some championship clubs. Keith fahy former premier league player and international will also be playing there next season. Agree, Derry could be playing in euro next season
