Standing Ovation for Veseli After Last Bury Game
Saturday, 5th Apr 2014 17:31

On-loan Town right-back Freddie Veseli was given a standing ovation after helping Bury to a 2-0 home victory over Exeter in the final game of his loan spell with the League Two side.

"There was a standing ovation for Veseli and it was quite emotional, as everyone realised how much he's done," manager David Flitcroft said. "He should be proud of his performances - League Two can be tough.”

Keeper Brian Jensen added: "Veseli needs to go back to Ipswich and say 'if you want a clean sheet, if you want the play offs, play me'."

Veseli himself added on Twitter: "A massive thank you to all Bury FC fans, players and staff for my time spent here. Thanks for the support, had a great time here!"

The 21-year-old, who signed a two-year deal with the Blues following his release by Manchester United last summer, made 18 appearances during his 93-day spell at Gigg Lane.

Elsewhere, skipper Carlos Edwards helped Millwall to beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Championship with ex-Blue Lee Martin netting the winner.

In League One, Elliott Hewitt’s Gillingham lost 4-3 at home, while in the Skrill Premier Jack Marriott’s Woking won 2-0 away at Hereford.

Elsewhere, Jack Doherty was an unused sub as Waterford United drew 0-0 away against Longford Town in the Airtricity League First Division.

This has been a great loan for him and great experience. He is still young and learning the game so hopefully can comeback and push for a 1st team place next season.

Hopefully he can now come back and push on. If Man United and City both had them in their academies there must be a some potential. Maybe one for next season?

i fail to see why we need to play a centre half at right back when we have right backs in our squad a failing that is by those who make decisions

MM says: If you keep your head down work hard in training, your always in with a chance of being in the mix...............trust me!

Veseli obviously has lots of potential and I'm sure Mick and TC have been keeping an eye on him. With Veseli and Hewitt we have two good young right backs who could do a job next season for us. Although I think Hewitt is more likely to be given the chance.

Despite the negative comments, the lad must have done really well. I can think of lots of places that cheered when they heard I was leaving, but few were of the standing ovation type :)

Pretty sure I read somewhere that he was playing centre half for Bury.
