Town Amongst Winners of Family Excellence Award
Thursday, 8th May 2014 09:48

Town are amongst 47 clubs to have won the Football League’s Family Excellence Award for 2014.

The award was instigated by the Football League in 2007 to recognise “the outstanding experience provided by clubs for young fans and families” with the Blues having secured it for seven successive seasons.

Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "The Football League Family Excellence Award gives clubs a standard to aspire to when planning their efforts to attract more families and young fans to their matches.

"It is hugely encouraging to see so many clubs receiving the accolade, demonstrating The Football League's ongoing commitment to securing the next generation of fans."

Really last weekend stewards made a man leave with his child, that's family excellence is it ?

That's what I was hearing at first, but someone close by confirmed on Twitter he had been moved upstairs.

Aside from that, it's great to get some recognition for being a proper family club :o)

Great to get recognition for this sort of thing.

I couldn't believe it when that fan got moved last week. For throwing the ball with slightly more force than needed to their player? And then the ref got involved? You see things a million times worse in the stands in football and nothing happens, and then a man with his kid does that and gets moved?

I'm surprised at this. They have done some good things with cheap tickets etc, however, it's not doing enough because attendances have dropped. I'm possible incorrect, I don't have children. Perhaps a family person could tell me I'm wrong? I'm looking at attendances on this. That's the way to judge the club reaching out to families?

I'm biased because I think that the match day experience is truly second to none. There is nowhere else in the world that I would rather be when I get to my seat in the SBR/North Stand. However I do understand that people with kids may want a bit more. I believe we are a progressive club trying to do the right things to attract a new generation of fans into the ground. I really hope we succeed. Signs are good!

How can you equate how a particular type of fan is being catered for, based on the overall attendance? Thats like saying we arent doing enough to encourage ethnic minorities. Or women. Or men.

I'm not surprised at this. Ipswich holds a great tradition as a family club and although things may not be perfect right now, we are still doing things a lot better than other clubs. As someone who takes his boys to PR and visits other grounds too, I can't think of many other grounds that do a better job than us for families.

olimar - It is very apparent to me and noted by stewards that less family are attending portman road than before. It might not all be down to the club I will add. Kids support Man Utd etc.

.......... if we are seen as being a 'family club' NOW - we must have really led the field, and set all the standards in the past.

No comparison today - to what we once were - in so, so many ways.
