Bialkowski Linked Again
Friday, 4th Jul 2014 09:22

Town are again being linked with a move for former loan keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, who TWTD reported would be on Mick McCarthy and keeper-coach Malcolm Webster’s list of potential targets a month ago.

Bialkowski, currently with Notts County, spent a short spell on loan with the Blues in 2009 from Southampton without making a first-team appearance and was previously coached by Webster during their time together with the Saints.

The Pole, who was understood to have been interesting the Blues last summer, said earlier this summer he is set to leave County, despite having a year left on his contract.

The 26-year-old recently told the Polish media that he was close to a move to a Championship club — who were believed to be Brighton — but speaking last week Magpies manager Shaun Derry said that although there had been interest his club was yet to receive an offer for Bialkowski.

Town are in need of an additional senior goalkeeper with Scott Loach having moved on to Rotherham earlier in the summer.

The fee County will want for 6ft 4in tall Bialkowski would have been an obstacle preventing the Blues from making a move but a deal may now be more likely with Town having receiving £3.75 million rising to £7 million for Aaron Cresswell from West Ham.

Why? He's no better than Gerken and isn't good enough competition.

Keeper is a key position for us if we are to make a real push for promotion this year . With a bit of money to spend , we have the opportunity to get a decent keeper in .

Then if we can get an attacking midfielder in , we will have strengthened the team nicely from the sale of Cresswell .

Remember him having a stinker on TV for Southampton once. Can't see him being any better than Gerken to be honest. Every good team in this league has a good goalkeeper, we've been lacking one for years!

Tractorfact - that's interesting about Henderson. MM was definitely a big fan of 'hendo' when he was on loan but i can't say he was hugely impressive. Would prefer him to Bialkowski though i guess. And we so need a creative midfielder don't we?

Saw a lot of Notts last season and honestly, Bialkowski was top class. Honestly think he's a better goalie than Gerken, and having spoke to him a few times, he's also a very good pro, a grounded family man. Would settle in brilliantly at PR.

I'll back up Solly's point, I saw Notts a number of times last season. He's a fantastic shot stopper but he does have a mistake in him, he's in a very similar mould to Gerken. Wouldn't be a bad addition, would certainly push Gerks.

Great to see some informed comments regarding this keeper other than he plays at Notts Co therefore he's rubbish.

We all like Gerken now but I'm pretty sure I saw some negative stuff on here when first linked. Having said all this we know Henderson is proven at this level so would be first choice if the deal was finacially right, which I'd doubt given our current resources.
