Berra in Contract Talks
Monday, 21st Jul 2014 16:39

Town have begun talks with Player of the Year Christophe Berra regarding a longer-term deal. The Scotland international's current terms are up next summer.

The centre-half was first reported to be close to agreeing a new contract with the Blues last week and again earlier today. We understand that while negotiations have started the deal is not yet done.

Early reports claimed that the 29-year-old was set to sign a three-year deal, which in line with other recent Town deals may be an initial two years plus an option of another season.

The Scotland international has been a huge success at Portman Road since joining on a free transfer last summer following his release by Wolves.

Sign. him up asap. I'm surprised no-one has been in for him. Very important cog for our future team building.

Very pleased the club is being proactive about this. In so many ways we have come on leaps and bounds from the days of "let's dally over extensions for all our best out-of-contract players until April because we don't know if we'll be playing in League One next season".

I'm never sure when i read 2 years plus an option of another year, who has that option? the club or the player. Keep up the good work Christophe.

It's good that we are getting players signed up, and it contrasts to the Clegg/Keane era where we let players such as McAuley run their contracts down and leave for nothing.

Are we allowed to mention McGoldrick? A year left!?

Change of subject. Have the season tickets been distributed yet? If not any idea when?

Certainly needs at least an extension to his contract if this is his last year...at least that will almost guarantee he'll be here to January (minimum) - if he continues to play well I'm almost sure a Premiership club will come a sniffin.

Great to sign him up longer .
It does show how defensive as a team we have become that the player of the year for the last 6 seasons has been a defender apart from one year that Jimmy won it .
