Town have begun talks with Player of the Year Christophe Berra regarding a longer-term deal. The Scotland international's current terms are up next summer.

The centre-half was first reported to be close to agreeing a new contract with the Blues last week and again earlier today. We understand that while negotiations have started the deal is not yet done.

Early reports claimed that the 29-year-old was set to sign a three-year deal, which in line with other recent Town deals may be an initial two years plus an option of another season.

The Scotland international has been a huge success at Portman Road since joining on a free transfer last summer following his release by Wolves.

In so many ways we have come on leaps and bounds from the days of "let's dally over extensions for all our best out-of-contract players until April because we don't know if we'll be playing in League One next season".
