Lita is an interesting one; he has moved for a lot of money & on big wages a few times and on his day is a top quality Championship striker. Problem is, it hasn't been his day for quite some time.
If anyone can get the best out of a player it is Mick McCarthy though, so if he thinks it's worth a look, fair enough. If his fitness, drive & attitude are not right, he'll be shown the door pretty quickly, no harm done. Also he'd have to agree to our wage structure if he was to sign.
What has surprised me a bit is the type of forwards that are being scouted/trialed. They seem to be in the big strong target man mould, but I would thing we are reasonably covered in that area by Murph & Nouble. What we are missing, until perhaps Marriott proves himself, is an out & out finisher type. McGoldrick has a great touch, hold up ability & intelligent lay offplay on top his striking, while Taylor can come from deep or out wide at pace (if he stays), but we have no selfish fox in the box goalscorer. I though Ebanks-Blake would be that man when fit, but Mick seems to be after something different.
Just please god no more links to Conor Sammon.

In quite reasonably assuming that we are not going to sign any world class players (how could we?), our success (or failure for the pessimists out there) will largely be dependent on building a team that, collectively, can compete against those with a smattering of 'stars'. That's kind of a given I suppose.

However, my hope is that we discover a little gem somewhere (no, not a lettuce). Perhaps home grown (still not lettuce related) or perhaps the likes Marriot or one of the 'unknown' trialists turns out to be something pretty special. It would be great to find another Town hero if we can't find a potential Town legend.

I can't say I'm keen on the idea of 'journeymen' or 'used to be good once guys' or, to be honest, the return of Garvan but I know that MM knows far more about managing / coaching / talent spotting / team creation than I ever will and, as such, I leave these things in his capable hands.

I just hope, whatever the team looks like at the start of the season, that we play positively, inject some pace / skill and give the fans something to be proud of.

Hope the strikers do well, as still think we are lacking a goal scorer up front, particularly considering the McGoldrick injury situation.
