McCarthy: Deserved Victory
Saturday, 26th Jul 2014 17:51

Boss Mick McCarthy felt his side deserved their 2-0 victory over Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium. Alex Henshall and Luke Hyam netted a goal in either half as the Blues beat the League One side comfortably.

“It was a good work-out for the lads,” McCarthy said. “Especially with the intense heat. I thought we played well, we deserved to win.

“I don’t think Gerks has had a save to make apart from a few shots from the edge of the box. I was pleased with the performance, I was pleased with the way we played. We’re still practising really, and we got no injuries.”

Summer signing Henshall continues to impress with McCarthy pleased that the former Manchester City winger heeded advice from the sidelines as he scored his second-minute goal.

“He got a shout from TC and me to get his backside in the box, so at least he responded,” joked the Town boss.

“I think he’s making an impression overall. I think he’s doing really well, I’m delighted with him.”

As for trialists Balint Bajner and Kevin Bru, McCarthy will be extending his look at them: “Both of them did all right. I think we’ll just have another look at them, they both did OK.

“I thought Balint was a constant threat, I think he’s still learning his game. I thought he and Jack Marriott were a good partnership in the second half.”

As for the other trialists who were at the club, the Blues boss added: “The ones who are not here are not here, simple as that. Once you’re gone, you’re gone.”

French striker Achille Campion, who played at Braintree, is now on trial at Bradford, along with former Blue Reggie Lambe.

Presume that Owen Garvan was only training with us like Titus did.Does Mick mean he has gone as well?

Another clean sheet and a win. Going quite well so far. Only another couple of weeks until the proper stuff starts, can't wait. Bring it on.

Owen Garvan is not part of the group . . . At least not yet! Until he joins the group he can't take part in the games. It would be deeply disrespectful to all parties to consider him a 'trialist'. For the moment the club are according him the use of all the club's facilities to enable him to keep fit while considering all the options available to him. We may be one area of interest to him but we will have to wait and see.
