I would prefer us to the decent football playing team, but if we are going to be a Long ball team, could we please released be and efficient and effective one? Being a long ball team who can't make long passes accurately, or head The ball, pick up the second call is (literally) pointless as well as tedious.

If McCarthy is happy with that utterly poor midfield and its total lack of a ball winner and the blatant evidence of not having a creative passer then personally he has taken this team as far as he can, and I for one wouldnâ€™t be sorry to see him replaced as it offered so very little.

We looked a side so devoid of ideas and havenâ€™t got a cat in hells chance of a top six finish.

Ipswich not clinical enough in front of goal. A top goalscorer is still a priority. Sammon is solid but will not change a game. Same for Bajner. Perhaps Bru could be the Central creative player we need too. He looked useful when he came on in the second half. Despite the defeat this game showed that we have closed the gap between ourselves and Norwich since the last encounter.

Retain a football and you can create chances as it allows forwards to make runs , we play in straight lines and kick long to head and then do not win second ball. No cohesion , guile ,skill of composure from Ipswich.

Simply not good enough, you could actually say we were outclassed by a not very good Norwich side, with the exception of Hyam (who was oddly substituted to allow Skuse to stay on???) there was no passion. Once again very poor goalkeeping decision making by Gerken which left him neither close to the ball or on his line. Norwich should have won 4/5 - 0, so in terms of scoreline it was not as embarrassing as it could have been.

The biggest problem is that we are stuck with this kind of football whilst MM is in charge, for all the work he has done and plaudits he has received, we have to start scoring goals, fans will vote with their feet and not come. I really cannot understand why a chance was not taken on either Collison or Ambrose in time for this game. I was at Birmingham on Tuesday where we got out of jail after another poor performance, this was arguably worse.

If we could've taken our handful of chances, or tried being as being for the whole game as we were in the last 10 minutes or so, the result may have been different. Also, playing long balls to McGoldrick, and even Murphy, is simply futile.

Lacking in quality, very little in the way of creativity and a reliance on long balls up towards the forwards. Hyam, McGoldrick and Mings performed well but there were others who really don't deserve to be on the pitch.....Tabb i'm looking at you!!
I've always been a strong supporter of MM but today for the first time I actually questioned whether he had any tactic other than long ball. We need to be able to switch the play and create options, something we singularly failed to do until Henshall came on.
Norwich didn't look a great side but had more than enough quality to easily cope with our one dimensional play and should in all honesty have made the scoreline bigger than 1-0.
I sincerely hope to see changes next game, we need it.

Terrible performance but sadly that is as good as it is going to get with no creativity in the middle. Skuse was appalling, Berra and Smith looked nervous but the greatest problem for me is Gerkin. He doesn't inspire confidence and should have come and punched the danger away.
The style of football is also a problem but that is what MM does so no amount of complaining will change it

Not as dreadful as some are saying in the heat of the moment, but not a great performance. Tabb looked lost today. The big plus for me, Mings is looking more and more confident, and on the road to being a quality player. How Murphs missed that header...he NEVER misses those does he?? Anyway, it's history now, on to Derby and an improved performance hopefully with a couple of changes needed I think.

Poor match between a poor team and a rubbish one. Norwich were the better side, much as it pains me to say it, but they weren't that good and any semi-decent team should have been able to get at least a point and probably all three against them today. Unfortunately, we weren't even semi-decent! Only players to come out of this with any real credit are the keepers.

I agree with the majority of the posts. However, for all his honest endeavour, Mings looks a bit out of depth in terms of his distribution. At least Hymam looked up for it which is more than can be said of some of the team. I agree that we have no options especially when we go a goal behind which sadly this year is happening too often. I just hope MM has some Premier loanees up his sleeve otherwise we will do well to finish halfway up the league this season. Norwich whilst not having to break much sweat don't look a top 2 side.

The long awaited East Anglian Derby (3 years) returned to Portman Road today with an excitement and anticipation running through the largest crowd (26K) seen at the ground for years. And that's when it started to petter out! There was an acute lack of quality missing from both sides and once the initial few minutes of cut-and-thrust passion had been endured, the game settled down into a mediocre, very ordinary and throughly boring match! OK, Norwich scored what looked to me like a very soft goal - and that was that. Although Norwich looked better in attack, their supporters, once the beating the old rivals euphoria had subsided, must have been disappointed that their team did not score at least three. So, a promising start to the season, beating Fulham at home, has already kindled the old problems again. Played 5, won one, drawn one and lost three. Another year without achieving anything of significance looms unless someone injects some quality into the team.

Scuse is so slow and cant compete, we badly need Williams back and then maybe the rest of the team pick up otherwise its going to be long hard season. The side that finished looked better prospect and perhaps Bajner should get his chance!

Norwich were sh*t, we were even more so. Lack of passion and desire with a complete inability to penetrate the Canaries' back four (supposedly their weakest area). Hyam and Mings were the only two who, in my opinion, showed an ounce of passion. No one to pick out who played particularly badly, just a generally poor performance from all involved and the goal, Christ don't even get me started on the goal...

Uninspiring. Very ponderous with the ball, particularly in midfield & our only other option was to lump it up front. Poor corners & free kicks, very little in the way of clear headers won & seemingly even less 2nd headers won.Poor shooting when in sight of goal. Mings seemed to settle as the game went on & Hyam did try to get stuck in particularly early on, but otherwise not much in the way of positives.

Hugely uninspiring performance. Really feel for the season ticket holders who have to put up with that every week. Not sure why everyone rates Mings, looked lazy coming back and must have missed 20 headers. Chambers still not an RB, got mugged off about 5 times for crosses that should have been goals. Skuse probably the worst player on the pitch. Any vaguely creative player for us must be banging their head against the wall. More backwards passes than I have ever seen in a game none of which led to anything. Horrendous game of football, I won't waste my money watching another one this season unless we get a creative mdfielder.

I don't blame Mick, he's worked miracles with a relegation side and no money, he grinds out results, but I'm not surprised they only get 11k a match, it's horrendous to watch.

Even Stevens for most of the match. Norwich had the creative edge but for all that only created chances towards the end of the game when Ipswich were pushing (relatively) for an equaliser.
Scuse dreadfully negative. Distribution from back poor. Anderson not involved. Forwards got no change out of Norwich defence.

Whack it long to Murphy, who is marked out of the game. Norwich pass it around a few times and it goes out of play. Town get the ball back, pass it around at the back until it's whacked long to Murphy and the cycle repeats. We need more variety or there will be no progress. Ever.

Yesterday was the ultimate 'reality check' We are physical, hard working and give no one an easy game, but as Norwich proved yesterday if you are prepared to compete and win the battle and you have the extra class, you will win! We know we need better players, players with pace and vision (this was too obvious from yesterday) but in big Mick's defence who and where are these players within his budget? I think a top ten finish is the best we can hope for?

A poor match with little creativity. Norwich showed more desire than Ipswich and crucially held on to the ball better too. I am not opposed to a slow build up with lots of sideways and backwards passing before an attack, but it is only effective if you probe with short passes and menacing runs. we have no one to run at defenders with the ball and tend to 'build up' only to then punt up a long one which is so easy to defend and consequently lose possession. 1 x Johnny Williams style player would fix 50% of yesterdays shortfalls. AT NO TIME DID WE MAKE NORWICH THINK THEY WERE IN TROUBLE!

we were second best across the park, whilst our front two are not the best in the league they had to feed off nothing more than scraps. we have an indecisive goalkeeper and possibly the worst midfield in the league who create absolutely nothing. I did not think that Norwich played that well but they were streets ahead of us on the ball. What did the manager say earlier, that he would accept 3 wins out of the first four games if the defeat was against Norwich. Well Mick you def got your wish re the Norwich game but only a scrambled draw at Birmingham and we hung on for the home win against Fulham. Fulham havenot set the league a light.Come on Mick we deserve better, go out and find some thing better for our midfield.Will be travelling to see the game at Derby on saturday??

Two poor teams playing badly. We lacked any cutting edge and allowed them to bully us. The goal, "in the referee's opinion" was onside so we're stuffed end off. More to the point we have Sky to thank for the proof that if Skuse and Gherkin had gone a half job they might not have scored and if they had done a proper job they wouldn't have scored. Gherkin seemed routed to his goal line for all of the second half, I'm a lower Sir Bobby so can't comment on the first half. Where is the money we got for Cresswell. We require a proper striker who can score- wait one- Mc Goldrick and Murphy can but they also have to create the chance which is wrong. We need a poacher. We need a forward attacking midfield player or players. One or two who know how to defend as well as how to put the foot on the ball, pass it or to have the compunction to carry the ball froward, a few midfield masies wouldn't go a miss. We need a keeper. A proper keeper who actually does the job. Way and above all of this we need some spirit in the camp. We need players who want to p[lay for the cub, the fans the town. However much they are on a week, very few of them have Town in their blood. They are doing a job, which it basically is just like a bricklayer of an accountant. Without real proper passion and 100% belief in Ipswich Town Football Club we're sunk, because we haven't got the money to buy a squad. They need to get that solid emotional attachment that is far and above a contract and a pay packet.
