Williams Set for Town Return
Saturday, 27th Sep 2014 20:36

TWTD understands that Crystal Palace’s Jonny Williams is due at Town on Monday to formalise a second loan spell with the Blues.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful stint with Town towards the end of last season, scoring one goal in 11 starts and two sub appearances.

While manager Mick McCarthy played down the likelihood of a further addition to his squad at his post-match press conference, earlier in the day, speaking Radio Suffolk’s Life’s a Pitch, MD Ian Milne hinted that a deal was close.

“Watch this space,” Milne said. Pressed further on whether a new signing could be on the cards, he added: “Just wait and see, but, yes, I think so. I’m not going to say who.”

Williams was left out of Palace’s 18 for their 2-0 home win against Leicester today, having played the first 80 minutes of their Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday.

The midfielder has been tipped for a loan move to the Blues or another of a number of interested Championship clubs since the summer, but new manager Neil Warnock had been keen to take a look at the Wales international before sending him out for a spell.

Outside the transfer window Championship clubs are permitted to take players on loans of up to 93 days.

Warnock has confirmed that Williams’s long-term future is at Selhurst Park with his contract running until the summer of 2018.

Problem I have is who misses out. Bishop will have his day and maybe will be better off going out on loan. I like Anderson and would not like to see him miss out

Assume Wiliiams will sit behind McGoldrick and Murphy as he is not coming to bench warm!

Amazing news and we now have so many ways of playing and getting results. MM has drilled the squad with at least 4 formations this season and they are all working nicely. Our midfield options are insane!

Left - Tabb, Henshaw, Hunt, (Murphy).
Right- Stewart, Anderson, Ambrose
Attacking- Bishop, Williams, (McGoldrick), (Bru).
Central- Hyam, Collison, Bru, (Tabb), (Ambrose)
Holding- Skuse, (Hyam), (Tabb)

Looking at it, it seems to me that the injury we'd find hardest to cover is Skuse!

Some of the midfield loan signings now seem a little strange - but what fantastic news.
A known quality signing.

Yes! Sign him up, just what we need. This move shouldn't halt Bishops development, it's a long season & you can't have enough creative players. If it happens, can't wait to see him & McG play together.

Well happy about this as long as it's got nothing to do with Mings...

As I predicted on here a while back, not too many believed me. Know DD as we are both cork men and he told me this was on the cards. Happy days.

Great : why have just 11 players competing for 4 midfield slots when you can have 12 instead? Ludicrous.

Glad but surprised this is happening - you do have to ask yourself is Crystal Palace that strong (squad wise) they can let Williams go out on loan? - is there now that much of a gap developing between the Championship and even the bottom of the Premiership teams?

And if he is really that good and makes the difference what happens come December ?!

Although I do worry what Williams' possible arrival might do to Bishop's development there is no doubting the thought of Williams and McGoldrick in the same team is exciting.I do wonder if his coming here is certain though because if it was definite why did Mick not say so when asked yesterday.Only threat to a potentially great season now would be a serious injury to Murphy or McGoldrick because everywhere else well covered.

Very good point Pazelle..... but hopefully Mings will not be involved in this deal now or as part of any future agreement with Palace.

To be honest, I think that Mings could end up (eventually) at a bigger Premiership club anyway. (if we don't make it ourselves).

If Williams signs this could be the difference between also rans and playoffs or automatic promotion , will take the burden off Dids and bring Bishop along also . Feel we have a lot more quality in depth now and dont think we will see a midfield of Skuse , Hyam , Anderson and Tabb again this season . Well done to all at club , keep the positive vibe MM 5 in a row !!
