Irish Youngster Set to Sign
Friday, 7th Nov 2014 17:44

Shelbourne winger Dylan Connolly has agreed to sign an 18-month deal with the Blues when the transfer window opens in January, according to reports in Ireland.

The 19-year-old was one of three Shels players who spent time on trial with Town in the summer, featuring in the pre-season friendly at Braintree along with midfielder Adam McDonnell, 17, who joined the Blues in August, and defender Ryan Robinson.

Irish U21 international Connolly was a regular for Shelbourne’s first team as they finished second in the Airtricity League First Division (second tier) during the 2014 season which recently came to a close, making 27 appearances and top scoring for the Dublin side with 12 goals.

He was named in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year and nominated for the PFAI Young Player of the Year award.

Connolly, whose Shelbourne contract was up at the end of the Irish season, was previously with another Dublin side Bohemians, where he made his breakthrough into first team football during the 2012 season.

Alex Henshall - best ITFC player in pre season.....never used..........when he has been used, has swung games for us every time, but still doesn't get a start!! Might as well have another young bench warmer?????

Cameron Stewart - remember him? Still at the club, not injured, another bench warmer

Good to see young players being signed for the future. The wingers you are talking about JSC don't really fit into the system we are using right now. This system has got us to fifth, closed down a 5 point defecit on Norwich and go 2 points clear of them, has scored in every game since then, produced the leagues top goal scorer and we have only conceeded 3 goals in open play since the Norwich game. I suppose a couple of little wingers would help with us conceeding from set pieces, not.

Connelly is a class player and definitely worth signing for our club. will also help O donnell settle in. We have two of the best prospects from Ireland on our books.

He scored 12 goals from midfield in a very competitive league, awesome performance for a youngster. Now to get Richie Towell signed up!

Always good to sign young players. At the moment both Stewart and Henshall offer a very sttractive plan b. Something which we have bern lacking for sometime.
Its down to the current first eleven to play at a consistent high level. If not both Stewart and Heshall will take their places.

Presumably Henshall and Stewart aren't impressing in training - we all know the emphasis MM puts on effort in training.

Saw this lad playing for Bohs when he made his debut (only 16 at the time!) and you can see he has a bit of quality about him even at his age. Great if he comes to PR.

Great shout from brian_a_mul - Richie Towell is the best league player in Ireland at the moment, I'm amazed he's not been picked up by a good English club. 23 years old, had spells at Celtic and Hibs in Scotland. Now with League of Ireland champs Dundalk. Somebody is bound to pick him up in January.

Spivvychops---completely agreewith you----Henshall and Mings fantastic at Derby in second half and turned the game round for us,never seen again---Stewart, never seen at all yet.

We will have to get a bigger bench and whilst it is not allowed to criticise MM,i would here, and also the fact we have no goalkeeper ( why did we not get Kuscak) and no back up strikers.

Otherwise all fine and expecting a win today.
