Ambrose Impressing Team-Mates
Tuesday, 30th Dec 2014 06:00

Boss Mick McCarthy says midfielder Darren Ambrose is increasingly impressing his Town team-mates in training. Yesterday McCarthy confirmed that he is keen to keep the 30-year-old, who will hope for some involvement against his former club Charlton tonight, beyond the end of his short-term deal.

“He’s done all right and even over the last couple of weeks it was interesting that a couple of the lads said ‘Wow, he’s just got better, he seems to have stepped up a bit’,” McCarthy said.

“Maybe that’s due to being out a long time, he’s certainly complemented training, he’s been one of us and he’s been on the bench and he’s taken part in games, so he doesn’t want to go anywhere and I think he’s a good guy to have around.”

He added: “I haven’t agreed anything with him, I just spoke to him with a view to seeing what he was wanting to do.

“I think there’s a little bit of interest in him from elsewhere because we know he’s got a good pedigree. But he wants to be here. And if we can agree to do something I don’t see any reason why I wouldn’t.”

Ambrose, who is in his third spell with the Blues having come through the academy at Playford Road, has added to the experience in the squad, which McCarthy says is another reason for extending his stay.

“I think if you’ve got players who have been there and done it before they’re generally good players, aren’t they?” he continued.

“Having good players is great, it’s nice when they’re good characters as well, and he is a good character.”

He has goals in his locker as well and if MM and TC can get him back to the form he was in when at Palace we would have even more goal threat.

It's no surprise he's impressing his team mates. I've told you many times that he is the leading light at training and his quality shies through.

Now he's up to speed, Mick just has to find a place for him in the team.

Trouble is, it's hard enough to get on the bench let alone in the team.

Just a reminder to all that Ambrose was stolen for £1million by Newcastle United, one of our top players as we went into Admin. Its taken 4 managers and 12 years to fully recoperate and recover to the same level.

Ambrose could be a direct replacement for Bish, just as Hyam should be for Skuse, that'd keep it more balanced in the middle than skuse hyam together
