Crystal Palace Await Replay Winners
Monday, 5th Jan 2015 19:38

Town will face Premier League Crystal Palace at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup if they defeat Southampton in next week's third round replay at Portman Road.

The potential tie could see Jonny Williams make a swift return to Town, his second loan spell having recently come to an end.

Damien Delaney, Owen Garvan, Lewis Price and former Blues academy schoolboy Stuart O'Keefe are also members of the Eagles' squad. Palace thrashed non-league Dover Athletic 4-0 away in the third round.

Darren Ambrose, who scored Town's goal at Southampton on Sunday, is a former Palace player, as is Jonny Parr, while Stephen Hunt and Jay Tabb were both youth players with the Eagles.

The sides have only met in the FA Cup once before, back in the 1957/58 season when the Blues won a third round tie 1-0 at Selhurst Park with George McLuckie netting the goal.

Fourth round ties will be played over the weekend of Saturday 24th January.

If the Blues fail to beat the Saints then they will have no game that weekend with their scheduled Championship opponents Brighton already having progressed through to round four, where they face Arsenal, via a 2-0 away win at Brentford on Saturday.

Great draw imho and very winnable so long as we beat Southampton

Not the greatest draw but if we can beat Southampton it's another good test against a team and club of a similar size and one we will be looking to take points off if we go up and they avoid relegation.

Seems the FA Cup could be giving us a nice little induction to playing in the Premier League next year...

:)

Not quite what I might have hoped for but at least it's at home, so if we can beat Southampton here then we can certainly beat Palace as well. I'm sure neither is happy about the prospect of coming to FPR...

A great incentive to win the replay, a home draw and another chance to pit our wits against Prem opposition. If we make Round 4, it would be great if ticket pricing was kept the same as the Southampton game, an almost guaranteed sell out plus the club and fans getting closer and closer?

Agree with most on here....completely uninspiring draw...esp as the mancs got drawn out next against Cambridge.......but let's win the replay first, then have very attractive prices for next round bring the kids back in to ignite the future support of town..........COYB

...baffled why my last comment just got two negatives....perhaps they are palace fans mooching onto our board....or just a bit strange!!!!!!

Potentially another tasty home fixture...and possibly the return of JW.

I think the negatives are because most people think it's a pretty good draw. It's a very winnable game, probably not as tough as Southampton so there is that to worry about first. I think Koeman has however hinted at a change in selectiion policy for the replay so we might well have a great opportunity.

What an incentive to show that we can compete with potential premier league opponents and show that we don't need to buy another team to compete in the upper tier. Let's show what we can do.

It maybe an unwelcome extra diversion but who doesn't want to see the club have a good cup run. It's been a long time. Let's celebrate it and take it all in our stride. Who thought we could give a good game to Southampton when we made so many changes.

I wasn't around for the good old days but am enjoying what we are doing and achieving at the moment. Keep the faith. COYB

A test from another top flight team (should we beat Southampton), can only make our talented squad stronger and the 'diversion' that some worry about is minor. We can take anyone in the Championship and with continuing hard work and belief from the players, Mick, Terry and all the backroom staff we may, come the end of the season, avoid the lottery of the play-offs and gain automatic promotion. This is what it's all about folks!
