Sears Switch Confirmed
Friday, 16th Jan 2015 13:05

Town have confirmed the signing of striker Freddie Sears from Colchester United on a deal until the summer of 2017 for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals for the struggling League One side this season.

The former West Ham man was at Playford Road this morning to finalise a switch and Sears will travel with the squad to Millwall today ahead of Saturday's game.

While a place on the bench is most likely, the frontman could start with David McGoldrick a doubt with a knee problem suffered in Wednesday's FA Cup defeat to Southampton.

Sears came through the ranks at West Ham where he eventually went on to make 25 starts and 33 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

While with the Hammers he spent time on loan with Crystal Palace, Coventry, Scunthorpe and Colchester before making his move to the U's permanent in July 2012.

Capped by England at U19, U20 and U21 levels, Sears has scored 36 goals in 81 starts and 28 sub appearances for the U's, including during his loan spell. The Hornchurch-born player's U’s contract was up in the summer.

If we get Sharp too I smell a rat. Could Didz be on his way? Sears looks like Sam Smith can he sing?

Nice and quietly. I like the way MM & TC do their business in private and when they have something to say they say it.
I don't know anything about Sears but he is scoring goals in a lower league club who are struggling to win so he understands the need to work hard. Should be a good fit for us.
Not sure about Sharpe - he had that one season when it all went well for him then went off the boil.

I think this is an excellent signing for us , pace to play off Murphy with Dids behind , well done to MM and ME for getting the job done as always . As stated earlier MM would not have let Salmon go without a replacement lined up with all the games we have coming up .
Think Sharp to get his career going again in a good environment spirit wise would also be a good signing .

As I thought, Mick had something up his sleeve all along. Potentially a very good signing, at a good age & will be very keen to prove himself at Ipswich. Welcome Freddie.

Great signing. It's just been demonstrated three times how good teams can shut us down though, so midfield next please. Freddies pace gives us a most welcome extra attacking option, but those boys need better service at this level.
