Hammond Set to Return for U21s Monday, 26th Jan 2015 09:33 Right-back Kyle Hammond is set to make his long-awaited return to action when Town’s U21s face Cardiff City at Playford Road this afternoon (KO 1pm). The 19-year-old former Westbourne High School pupil, who signed a one-year pro deal in the summer, suffered an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury back in March. Hammond, who was part of the first-team squad during the Blues' 2013/14 pre-season programme, was set to make his return at Swansea last week but that match was postponed due to a frozen pitch. In addition to first-year pros and academy scholars it’s likely that one or two senior players will be involved against the Bluebirds, while trialist Semi Ajayi, a 21-year-old central defender from Arsenal, is also expected to feature. Crayford-born Ajayi, an U21 international with Nigeria, joined the Gunners from Charlton in 2013 having spent 10 years in the Addicks' youth system, signing a two-year deal. Ajayi, who spent time on loan in non-league with Dartford in 2012, scoring one goal in three appearances, was on the bench for Arsenal's first team for their Premier League game against Hull in October but is yet to make his debut for the North Londoners. Town manager Mick McCarthy gave his senior squad a few days off after Wednesday's defeat at Brighton but they are due to return to training today.
