A programme from Town’s first ever professional game made £130 at an auction at Lockdales of Martlesham at the weekend.

The August 1936 souvenir edition was sold as a then-record 14,211 crowd turned out at Portman Road for the visit of Tunbridge Wells Rangers in the Southern League.

Mick O’Brien’s home side won 4-1 with goals from Jackie Blackwell, George Dobson, Bobby Bruce and Jackie Williams.

Another historic Town programme, just a single sheet, sold for £55. This was for the 1952 joint-benefit match for Harry Baird and Tommy Parker between the Blues first team and a Select XI, the first ever testimonial game at the club.

A programme for the 1928 FA Cup final between Blackburn and Huddersfield sold for £300, while a figure of £320 was reached for the 1926 Bolton v Manchester City final programme.

Auction manager James Sadler said: “The football programme market is very buoyant. Everything sold well, and we have an even bigger selection for our next sale in March.”
