Marriott Nets First U’s Goal as Injured Henshall Returns to Town
Sunday, 8th Feb 2015 17:11

Striker Jack Marriott netted the first goal of his loan spell with Colchester on Saturday but couldn’t prevent the U’s from losing 3-2 at home to Crewe Alexandra.

Marriott, who is at the Weston Homes Community Stadium for the rest of the season, came on as a sub in the 79th minute - his second appearance from the bench for the League One club - and netted from close range five minutes later as the U’s looked to get back into the game.

Blues right-back Elliott Hewitt missed the game as he is suspended following his recent red card against Leyton Orient.

Meanwhile, winger Alex Henshall has returned to the Blues at the end of his month on loan at Blackpool having picked up a knee injury. The 20-year-old made only two sub appearances for the Championship’s bottom club.

Seasiders manager Lee Clark said: “Alex has had a bit of a knee problem and has gone back to Ipswich.

“His loan expires at the weekend so he’s gone back, he wouldn’t have been available for the weekend anyway as he was injured.”

Elsewhere, midfielder Anthony Wordsworth played the full 90 minutes as Crawley lost 2-1 at Yeovil Town.

We really need to address the midfield wide positions. Tabb and Anderson have been poor recently. Other options needed.

Congrats to Marriott. Good to see him score at a higher level.
