Fulham Linked With McCarthy Move
Sunday, 22nd Mar 2015 14:38

Fulham are reported to be interested in recruiting Town boss Mick McCarthy.

According to The Sun on Sunday the Cottagers plan on a move for the Blues manager if he fails take Town into the Premier League this season.

The Londoners are said to have been ready to offer Steve Bruce a £30,000 a week salary and a budget with which to sign players until he extended his Hull City contract and are now claimed to see McCarthy as the man to get them back into the Premier League.

Fulham, relegated from the top flight last season, are currently 20th in the Championship, eight points from the relegation places despite receiving lucrative parachute payments.

Current manager Kit Symons took over, initially as a caretaker-boss, following the departure of Felix Magath in September and is contracted until the end of next season.

McCarthy, whose family home is still in Bromley, signed a new three-year contract with the Blues last summer.

That's funny, that's what I heard a week ago; Wood on loan now, then a bag of cash in the summer will see McGoldrick going the other way to Leicester and Wood staying at PR, I hope not, but as they say no smoke without fire.

I like MM but I suspect that even he would acknowledge he's old school. B'mouth, Watford, Boro - even the Budgies - seem to have avoided obvious names and are doing well. It's the future

Please be true - anyway we could swing it that we get promoted and he still goes to Fulham !

Does no one think he might want to go to a club where the owners are willing to back him with hard cash in the transfer market. You will know I am not his biggest fan with the style of football he plays and I wonder who our wonderful owners would put in his place. It would have to be someone very cheap, they would probably go down the job centre and see who is available

This will depend on one thing and one thing only, 'Marcus, what funds do i have available for next season'
'Well, nothing, same as this one'

Fulham to MM ' Come to us, 20m budget, two seasons worth of parachute left, what can you do'
MM ' hmmmmm'

We'll see

Well wayway, there are several on here that seem to think they could do the job better so
ME should be able to get one of them.
Not you of course because you would not want to work for Marcus, would you?

When the owner of fulham has put 60million+ of his own money into the club you can start talking about backing the club.
if we dont go up! then MM will take us no further and surely time to move on.

'Family home in Bromley'?
So, where does he live then? In a hotel in Town?

Who else would beable to do what he has done on such a low budget? He has returned some pride to the club after past managers I won't name nearly took us into League 1 .
Admittedly the football is not pretty but the Championship is not the Premier League.

Hopefully Mick will stay, however,it must be frustrating to manage a team on a shoestring budget ,failure to reach the heights expected could bring the criticism ''taken team as far as he can ''. I have been thinking recently that if we dont achieve promotion this season he may be tempted to go elsewhere .Micks loyalty to players or fans may not be in question, but he is not stupid,he knows few owners are really loyal to managers and he could be fired in the blink of an eye .I'd say, hope he stays but dont discount the possibility of him joining Fulham .

I believe if we get in the play offs - that is above expectations for 'most on here' when we all looked at the season back in August
Anyway - it is not over yet and we could go up in automatics - who knows
But - all Is ay to those saying MM has gone as far as he can - who else will come in - with the same funds available - that is the key point here
Many lamented when derby 'splashed their cash and got Bent , Lingeard and Ince ! That has worked a dream for them in the last 6 games ...
And for every Karanka there is a Felix McG .
Enjoy the break and this lets all enjoy the most exciting end to the season we have had in over 10 years
Except of course those that wanted MM out 4 games ago - who must be sick we are still in it

If we don't go up this season I think he'd be confident in getting promotion with us next season, if he went to Fulham it's be like starting from scratch again as he did with us a couple of years ago - so I don't really see why he'd want to leave for them.

for a team that "goes to not lose" rather than to win, we seem to be quite good at winning.

If we win against Bournemouth, we will have won exactly half, and drawn exactly a quarter of league games this season.

And played very well against a strong team going well in the Premiership. Twice.

Hazelton - yep all decent managers , but all spent millions for players and not 110,000 as MM has , and they less than 2 games points from us..brentford below us , so by your logic Warburton is crap yet still sdpent millions..so in effect he is really crap...not unlike your post.!!

Eddie Howe a very good coach who has built the best footballing team - imo - for past two seasons in our div. Interesting he left then came back as Burnley didnt happen for him - I Like him though - good young English manager plays football and has good blend in his team
He is Bournemouth through and through !
You can keep Neill - lets be honest - Scum were under performing massively - Lets see how he gets on next season
It is always very subjective when talking managers and many Managers today would not go somewhere unless there was a BIG POT to dip in to
And of coursee , as we know , money does not guarantee success
Man Utd , Liverpool , Arsenal , even Man City - how many of their fans would say their investments haven't paid off in recent years vs trophies/Europe
Oh and it helps if your mate and ex colleague is the Chelsea Manager - Karanka , or runs an Italian side and you are their off shoot - Wat for

Mick has taken us close this year on a shoestring and whatever happens after this the season is overall a success. Yes many of us would prefer some things to change (style of football, defensive tactics) but despite that Mick and TC have done a great job.
I think his biggest success has been that we now have a decent if unspectacular squad, particularly if we keep Mings, Berra, Bishop and Sears in the summer. I'd let McG go - his attitude this season has been shocking and despite his quality, if we can get some money for him I'd rather lose him than Bishop if we have to make some money as is likely. Connolly is by all accounts going to be a good player for us and we have a couple of other good young lads coming through so we are pretty solid throughout. I am sure we'll spend the whole summer arguing where we should strengthen but imo a quality GK, another right back, a left winger and an up and down passing midfielder would do it for me (Bish and/or Bru can provide the passes). So not much tinkering required.
I'll get to my point - therefore Mick will stay IF ME gives him the funds to bring in these 4 quality players and doesn't asset strip the few quality players we have. If not, I fear he will be off and much as I dislike aspects of him, we will be all the worse for it.

Oh and of the replacements suggested only Warburton would get my vote. Howe has no class as he will again show when we "nick points off them" in a fortnight. Yes the football is nice to watch, but lets not forget the winging coach and players, the diving and the rest of it. And we should beat them just to prove that you can play within FFP and be successful - grrrr!
