Town Drop to Seventh
Friday, 3rd Apr 2015 21:56

Town dropped to seventh after Derby drew 2-2 at home with 10-man Watford in this evening’s later game.

The Hornets went ahead through Matej Vydra in the 23rd minute but had Marco Motti red-carded just before the break, ex-Blue Darren Bent netting the resultant penalty.

Tom Ince put Derby in front 12 minutes after the break but Odion Ighalo levelled in the 75th minute.

The Rams are now sixth on 68 points, ahead of the Blues - by 10 - and eighth-placed Wolves - by 14 - on goal difference.

Brentford are in fifth on 69 points, Watford fourth on 73, Norwich ahead of the Hornets in third on goal difference, with Bournemouth second (74) and Middlesbrough (75) top.

Not a problem. Play how we have been lately and we will be just fine. A point against one of the top sides in this league isn't a bad result and we played o.k. Still see us finishing top 6.

Wolves is a huge game BUT looking at the run in of Derby , Wolves and Brentford - they all play teams in bottom three who have something to play for - Milwall will scrap as will Wigan - they all play them plus Brentford play Derby - so alot more twists !! Believe !!

Well we've got Blackpool next Saturday and that should be a 3 pointer but other than that I don't think they'll be to many punters trying to forecast the play-off teams never mind our last 6 games (bar the game mentioned) - minimal requirement try and win all our home games...

Revised table prediction...Wigan and Reading seem to be the sides that can help us the most against sides around us.

Three wins and three draws, should, fingers crossed be enough, to sneak in to the playoffs.

Alternatively, four wins, a draw and a loss/draw, should be enough (unless teams around us have a stormer!

Auto's will no be happening!

Good point today regardless of when they scored the goal, onto what is a must win on Monday!

It's still all to play for, but disappointing we are seventh.

It's been an odd season. At the start we would have been pleased with this with six games to go. However, considering where we were going into 2015, it really is a shame we aren't still in with a more realistic automatic promotion challenge. Play offs considering where we were is an absolute must.

80 points is the magic number Jas, regardless of what the league says. Performances have been great, today is the first home game I've seen us fight for every ball with real grit! The next three games are the crucial ones, we will know where we stand after that.

In my book if we win all three we will make the play offs, if we win two and draw one, we will be biting nails, anything less and I can't see us making it going by fixtures for sides around us.

At the moment it looks like there are 4 teams scrapping for automatic promotion, and another 4 teams scrapping for the final 2 playoff places. The good news is, if we do finish 5th or 6th (and I think we will) we will be pitted against a team who will be gutted to have only just missed out on automatic promotion. This could work in our favour. COYB!

Horsehollerer has it in a nutshell, there's 2 mini leagues now. Bournemouth will surely go up automatically, given how they're playing & who they have left to play - they tend to whallop sides outside the top 8. I have to admit that Norwich are probably the second best side on current form &, trying to stay objective, I see them getting the second automatic spot. So that would leave Watford & Middlesbrough as the first 2 sides into the playoffs.
Derby look to be getting back into form, Ince & Bent are still doing well for them & Martin is over his injury. I think they'll get enough points to stay in the top 6 now.
So, one spot left - I'm ruling Brentford out, partly through bigger club arrogance I must admit. For unfancied sides to make it into the promotion showdown, they need to have belief & confidence in themselves; I just feel all the behind the scenes uncertainty will come against them when it really matters. The manager will be gone next season so it'll be harder to be united when things aren't going well.
So that leaves us & Wolves. Bottom line, I think we're better than they are and are back in form & good options available to us from the bench & a manager who can really get the legendary 110% out of his players. The game against Wolves could be a playoff shootout, if we win (or draw) that game, I'm convinced we'll be in the playoffs.
I don't think we'd have anything to fear from Watford, Middlesbrough or Derby with all our players fit. Bring on the fun.

If we can get the 3 points at Hudds on Monday I'll be reasonably confident of top 6. If we don't...

We should be looking for minimum of 7 points from next 3 games, and probably 9. Anything less will make it difficult.

Thinking mm will need to adjust his thinking now and gamble on wins draws no longer any use to us need 4 wins I feel .

I walked from the ground to the station for the long haul back to Bath thinking what a shame we only had a point!!, but in all honesty we could have been clobbered(and would have been 3 or 4 weeks ago) when Bournemouth really had a go at us after an indifferent start which we took advantage of and our performance in the first 30 mins was excellent then we were under the cosh but to a man stood up to be counted and I was very impressed with the way we fought for every ball(ok jones scored but it always looked likely in the last 15 mins!) and rode our luck at times but full credit to all in a blue shirt, and we are still in with a shout of the play offs so come on you blues!!!!!

I cant believe that even 80 points might not get us into playoffs.
If it was another season that would have prob been enough to make top 2.
No matter what happens by the end of season I think hats off to MM and players for reaching the point tally they have.
