McCarthy: New Additions Closer
Thursday, 30th Jul 2015 13:09

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s closer to making further additions to his squad with the Blues currently in “discussions with clubs”. Speaking on Tuesday at Colchester, the Blues boss expressed his frustrations regarding progress on bringing in further signings.

But, speaking at this morning’s open day, he says he closer to making new signings: “I think so, at least we’re talking to them anyway.”

With owner Marcus Evans in charge of negotiating transfer deals, McCarthy admitted that he wasn't sure whether bids have been accepted at this point: “That I wouldn’t know.”

However, he added that talks are ongoing on, apparently on a number of fronts: “We’re in discussions with clubs.”

The Town boss says he needs to add to his squad with his numbers currently limited: “I’m happy with the players I’ve got but I need to add to the squad.

“We’ve had 16 out today and a couple of those were trialists [Giles Coke and Larsen Touré], so quite clearly that’s not going to see us through for 10 months of a season and 46 games.

“And even at the start we’ve got six games in 21 days, potentially seven if we beat Stevenage.”

Released striker Noel Hunt also trained with the Blues at Portman Road this morning, in front of a record open day crowd of more than 7,500, and is understood to be close to joining Southend.

We'll only get a percentage of any fee above what Sunderland paid us for Wickham. He hasn't had international caps or even made that many appearances for Sunderland, so probably not much in add ons from the £8.1m (I think) we got up front. Are Palace offering more than that for him?

People keep going on about Jonny Williams, but he's on loan at Forest now..! Did I read that correctly in HarryFromBath's post..?

If we don't pay huge transfer fees we have no ambition!!

Apparently.

Not going to celebrate yet until we see who we have signed. The 2 trialists are nowhere near good enough for a promotion chasing team.

Think Guthrie would be decent and Konchesky but I don't see either. Expect coke will be added for cover, Hyam hopefully will get over his injury sooner rather than later, I think he's underated somewhat by some.

Then back 4 coverage please. Be interesting to see that Traore again, I'm guessing Bruce has recommended him so maybe we'll see something with a bit of match fitness in him

9.1 million for Wickham so just under a million if the 15% is right

I agree with Swindons Nathan Byrne! I have seen him play every game last season as I work at STFC. Great attacking RB, not scared to take people on and has scored some good goals! Reminds me of a young Carlos Edwards!!

It's only a percentage of the profit made, not the total sale.
Would be surprised if we see any more money from the Wickham deal. If we do it would be (at max) 100,000 pounds (give or take).

Nathan Byrne would be a superb signing.
