Knudsen Set for Medical Friday, 31st Jul 2015 09:11
Danish Superliga club Esbjerg fB have confirmed that left-back Jonas Knudsen has been sold and will have a medical and contract talks with a foreign club today. As reported last night, the 22-year-old Denmark international is set to join Town.
An Esbjerg statement on their website reads: “EfB has sold the 22-year-old left-back, Jonas Knudsen, to a foreign club.
“He this morning travelled to have a medical and clarification of the final personal details of his contract with his future club and he is therefore not included in EfB's squad for today's away match in Alka Superliga against Viborg FF.”
TWTD understands that members of the Town management, including assistant boss Terry Connor, have travelled to Denmark to watch Knudsen in action during the first few weeks of the Danish season.
He joined Esbjerg aged 10 from a local village club Hjerting and in March 2010 he made his first team debut against Randers aged 17 and became the youngest player in the club's history.
He quickly established himself as a left-back and despite his youth has already played 153 senior games (including appearances in the Europa League in 2013/14 and 2014/15), scoring six goals. He was part of the side which won the 2013 DBU Cup (Danish FA Cup).
Having impressed throughout 2013/14, when he was his club's Player of the Year, he broke into the Danish national team and has won two caps.
Described as a physically strong player and a hard worker who enjoys a battle, he is also known for his long throws.
With his contract up in the summer of 2016, the Blues aren't thought to have paid a huge fee with some Danish sources suggesting €500,000 (£350,000) with a buy-out clause having been inserted in the deal he signed last summer.
Knudsen, who was previously linked with the likes of French side Marseille and Dutch giants PSV, recently played at the European U21 Championships in the Czech Republic and has also won caps at U18, U19 and U20 levels.
If the move progresses as expected, he could be involved in tomorrow's home friendly against Dutch side Utrecht. Knudsen looks set to be handed the number three shirt vacated by fellow left-back Tyrone Mings when he joined AFC Bournemouth for £8 million last month.

Lovely! Like the clip of him scoring that goal. Good left peg. Plus - listen to the crowd chanting his name! They love him! Good sign. Reckon a great signing, but would be great if we could now get a RB and a top class keeper!
Totally agree with Len_Brennan. I live in NZ and I am always checking for updates. I love my team, I still have my season ticket and transfer news still excites me even though I Know it's unlikely that I will see any live matches this season. Ipswich is a special club, it has it's integrity back and we are going to have a great season. We have some real talent in the squad and a manager who has forgotten more about the game than most people learn in a lifetime. Football and ITFC....it's in our blood!
Im very impressed with the deal, and don't see any bad as Denmark have already started their season hes up to 1st team action, as hes been withdrawn from tomorrows game for Esbjerg looks as good as done and dusted can see him having a run on sat. so everyone get their Viking hats on show the lad what a great club hes coming too.
another potentially wonderful player. His experience is awesome, European and International experience at 22. He is the ideal age and if the reported figure €500k is true this could be a bargain.
If we can get the young Scottish RB at Hearts, we could be well on the way to having the defense sorted out in terms of numbers
he had a clause in his contract at 250k ,we matched that after an agent tip off. Terry Connor went and watched him twice , then the bid went in. 250k could be another steel. We do lack centre mid dynamic type i feel. Coke is tidy , but is he the difference between 8th and top 6 ,we need that elusive creative box to box type. Magilton type player ,he was the difference in our mid re promotion.
THis sounds very exciting. Young, tall, strong and long throws, bring it on! Just a pity we can't get RB to match and let Chambers retrun to centre leaving Smith and Berra to fight out left side. I can't see why MM prefers Smith in right side (apart from saving money ) his delivery is poor with his right and long passes with his left are curling out of play too often.
Like others don't know much about him but having played for his national team he can't be bad and hopefully should be an asset to a Championship team. If* he is coming (and it sounds like he is) it will be interesting if he goes straight into the LB position and if so does that mean Parr will play RB? - SOUNDS LIKE GOOD NEWS and only positive for this club progressing.
My danish famile and friends say he is awesome and still young. Hope he gets settles soon. If club need a dane to help him settle in. Just contact me. Tak
