Hunt Joins Southend
Saturday, 1st Aug 2015 11:44

League One Southend United have confirmed that released former Blues striker Noel Hunt has joined them on a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

Irish international Hunt, 32, wasn't offered new terms by Town at the end of 2014/15 but was training with the squad as recently as Thursday when he joined his former team-mates for the public session on the Portman Road pitch.

Hunt followed his brother Stephen - who is yet to find a club following his release in May - to Town initially on loan from Leeds in November 2014 and scored a dramatic debut winner having come on as a sub at Charlton.

After being released by the Whites, he re-signed for the Blues on a short-term deal in January and in total made three starts and nine sub appearances, scoring three goals.

Southend have already signed Anthony Wordsworth, who was also released by the Blues at the end of 2014/15.

Good luck. THAT goal against Charlton! Me screaming the pub down when it went in, quizzical looks from the regulars all watching premier league on the big screen. Good day.

I'd have gone Chicago though.

We'll always have Charlton. And that first ten minutes at Millwall everyone forgets about. :)

As I live near Southend I was looking at the comments from SUFC fans and pretty much all think it is a terrible signing. I did put them right that most Town fans wanted him to stay and that he would be great in league 1. Southend or Chicago no contest really so surprised he didn't go to the windy city

Good luck to him.

If he stays fit he will bang them in. Great player for them.

Great signing for Southend. If he stays fit & gets the service I'd expect him to hit the 20 goal mark at least in that division.
Best of luck to him.
