McCarthy Nominated for Manager of the Month
Thursday, 3rd Sep 2015 06:15

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for August.

McCarthy is up against Chris Hughton, whose Brighton side beat the Blues 3-2 at Portman Road on Saturday to climb to the top of the table, Steve Bruce, boss of Hull City, who are second, and fourth-placed QPR’s Chris Ramsey.

The Blues, who are third, won three, drew one and lost one in the first month of their Championship campaign.

Hughton looks to be the strong favourite to carry off the gong with the Seagulls unbeaten and top of the table, having won four and drawn one of their five games. The winner will be announced on Friday.

Last season, McCarthy won the September award, becoming the first Town boss to win Manager of the Month since Joe Royle in November 2004. He was also nominated in November and December.

McCarthy picked up the award three times with his previous clubs, once with Sunderland and twice with Wolves.

Houghton will win it, better results and unlike Ipswich Brighton have not been on the path to improvements for some time - I was very surprised how well Houghton has got Brighton playing!

As for Mick, excellent results in August nonetheless plus the signings of Douglas, Henly, Alabi and Malarczyk for a combined total of £8K in fees, along with contract extensions for McGoldrick and Sears. Happy with that!!

I don't know why they bother with the nominations, it's obvious the top boss (only one unbeaten) will get it.

Brighton are unbeaten and top of the league so difficult to not select Hughton, but if you look at their results, on paper only their away win against us you'd consider an excellent result. I think our results against better teams are worth more in the wider context.
