On-Loan Stewart on Target
Sunday, 13th Dec 2015 11:25

On-loan Blues winger Cameron Stewart scored an injury time 25-yard freekick - the first of two goals his side netted in additional time - to help Doncaster Rovers to a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Crewe Alexandra in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Following the game manager Darren Ferguson praised the 24-year-old’s performances when coming on as a sub in recent weeks and admitted he has a tough decision to make when his half-season loan ends on January 2nd.

"The last three games that he has come off the bench, he has done well," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"He came on and scored against Chesterfield, he came on and had an influence on the game at Cambridge and he really got us back in the game then.

“He's a good impact player, Cameron. I know he wants to start more football matches and we have had a discussion, so I’ve a tough decision to make when it comes to the end of the month, what to do with him.”

He added: "It will depend on other things as well but I like the lad, he is really good professional and he trains really well, he always has a smile on his face and he never gives me a moment’s bother.

“He is also quite flexible, he can play up front, he can play as a wing-back as he did today. He was good when he came on against tired legs. He is good when he’s on fresh.”

Stewart, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2017, has made eight starts and eight sub appearances for Rovers, scoring three goals, since joining them in August. His only two appearances for Town were as a sub the FA Cup games against Southampton last season.

Elsewhere, Josh Yorwerth played the full 90 minutes and Josh Emmanuel was an unused sub as Crawley Town beat Dagenham and Redbridge 3-2 at the Broadfield Stadium in League Two.

Matt Clarke came on as an 85th minute sub as the Blues’ FA Cup opponents Portsmouth beat Hartlepool 4-0 at Fratton Park, also in League Two, with ex-Town academy striker Caolan Lavery netting the first goal.

Keeper Michael Crowe was an unused sub as Stevenage won 2-1 at AFC Wimbledon, again in League Two.

Striker James Alabi made his first start and scored his first goal for Grimsby as they drew 1-1 with Solihull Moors at Blundell Park in the FA Trophy.

Irish U18 international frontman Cemal Ramadan netted Bury Town’s goal as they lost 2-1 to Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Trophy at Ram Meadow.

Give him another chance in January I say, seemed decent enough in the FA Cup last season. Alabi's started 2 games and scored 2 goals so far this season...

Doesn't seem from Darren Fergusons remarks that he is much trouble to handle, which several thought that his attitude was the reason why he hardly got a kick at Ipswich.

However in League 1,he has not been getting regular starts, and it is interesting that Fergy describes him as an impact player, and is not sure what to do when his loan is up next month.

Agreed Seasider so it could be just that McCarthy doesn't like him. He would be better off looking for a club where he has a future before we get the McCarthy standard "He's not for me" speech.

...... the lad has an element of flair about him - too much of which will give MM dizzy spells.

Therefore unfortunately he has no future with us, best he moves on to a Club that will appreciate his obvious potential, and possible talent.

With his pedigree and transfer fees Stewart should be nailed on starting for a div 1 club not merely an impact sub! Nice free kick goal but wont change Micks mind. Also good to know he does smile - the only photos we ever see of him with a pout on!

I too would like him to have another chance. But agree think he may simply not be MMs type of player. Alabi was always worth a punt so jury is still out for me. Yorwerth I have a feeling may go far hopefully for us. Jury still. Out on Crow and Emmanuel for me but good to see so many out on loan.

Let's face it Jimmy most of our young players whether out on loan or not deserve to play for a manager with more imagination and creative flair.

If he isn't starting for Doncaster I don't think MM is the problem

Sorry but not for me - good luck Cameron but he isn't even getting in the line up for a league 1 side.

Is he better than Fraser/ Niles? A fully fit Oar? I doubt it. Shame the deal was for so long.

I'd rather be 6th than have " creative flair " and be our usual 17th in this division. Results business.
