Town's Style Didn't Suit Oar
Friday, 29th Jan 2016 10:17

Winger Tommy Oar’s agent says Town’s style of play didn’t suit the Australian international, who left Portman Road after his contract was terminated at his request last Friday.

The 24-year-old joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer having left Dutch side FC Utrecht, but made only four Town starts - just one in the league - and five sub appearances, scoring his only goal in the FA Cup tie against Portsmouth at Portman Road, before deciding to move on.

"When Tommy came they had a certain way of playing, but they lost a couple of games and the coach changed their style,” his agent Michael Jansen told beIN Sports Australia.

“With Tommy being a technical type of player, a more European style, he didn’t suit the play very well. Tommy just didn’t think it was working out for him."

Jansen says Oar is in no hurry to find a new club - as a free agent he can move outside the transfer window - with Australian reports suggesting a move to China is on the cards, while A-League teams, including his former side the Brisbane Roar, are also interested.

“He is relaxed about his future and has all the time in the world to sort things out,” he added.

“I cannot mention any clubs at this point but he is transfer free and a lot of interest is coming in which is normal with somebody of his status.

"We are taking it step by step. He only terminated his contract a few days ago. He’s top fit, played a week or so ago and is training by himself right now.

"The European window closes in a few days and when it does a lot of clubs will still be looking for players and much can change.

"There is a bigger chance he will go to Asia or the Middle East than back to Europe or Australia."

Jansen ruled out a move to another English club: "Ipswich treated him well and of course out of respect England is certainly a closed book for Tommy.

“[Mick] McCarthy was happy with him, the way he trained and prepared himself. He did a decent job but these things take time.

“But, if as a player, you see the way of playing [and] training aren’t working out it’s better to talk with the club and solve the problem and the club approached and dealt with things in a very decent way.”

Derby123 - he never played for Grimsby in the cup. He was on the bench but an unused sub. Under FA rules you can still play for another club if you don't make it on the pitch so he was eligible. It's a strange one.

Good post kikapu if I don't of said that the down arrow key would of gone into melt down.
How many people on here had heard of oar before he came to town? Parr had his chances and never really took them too inconsistent and injury prone to my mind.
When I read the headline I thought Taylor made for the whingers and anti Mick brigade 4 pages in 6hours that's brilliant we only get 3 or 4 when we win in 48 hours tells me something that.

I think the general feeling is that Parr was not given a decent crack of the whip and if someone feels that Parr had his chances but never took them then clearly he has not been following matches too closely as the general opinion amongst the more illuminated supporters supports the opposite opinion.
Regarding the reputation of Oar,well there are many Town supporters who are able to tilt windmills and not be MM's lap dog and agree with every decision that he makes and then plays the victim when he is shown to be misinformed and will know that in the realms of world soccer, Tommy Oar has a respectable reputation. It is this presumptuousness that makes certain assertions on this board looks foolish at best and misinformed at the worst.

Yes Portsmouth deserved it, but let's not over play it, they raised their game against us, as most lower league teams do against higher places teams,(just look at Oxford vs Swansea, are Oxford the better overall team, no) and we played our reserves.

Prebsa your pretty good at the down arrow so I should rein in the criticism of others.

Criticism that's all you ever give. People here actually make some really good comments but as soon as someone says one bad thing about the team you are on their back and it looks like derby123 has joined in with you.

Prebbs bit like you when someone says something positive about the team then. I've never seen you comment on a win or a positive story on the club. Just pure negativity. I have no problem with reasoned posters of which there is many.

They just won't comment essex57. Waiting for the next negative story or result. Look at how long the new story has been up. Not even 20 comments in nearly 4 hours. This story had over 100 in same time.

Well, with the story being changed AGAIN by Oar, you all look bit silly tonight.

The laundrettes of Ipswich look set to be full of piss stained bedsheets tomorrow.

I remember when Arnold Muhren made his début, he got a neck ache watching the ball being ' hoofed '. He said to manager Bobby Robson, ' if you want me to play, I need it at my feet." we changed style and then look what happened. Just saying.

If anyone looks at McCarthys signings absolute rubbish he gets someone decent he won't play them so they leave just like Parr best fullback and he won't play him McCarthy out
