Gills Midfielder Linked
Monday, 1st Feb 2016 15:04

Surprise deadline day reports are linking the Blues with an unlikely move for Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack.

According to The Sun, Town have made a £2 million approach for the 22-year-old, who has scored 14 goals from midfield for the Gills in League One this season and has also been mentioned in connection with Bristol City and Reading.

Later reports claim that offer has been rejected, however, Town are highly unlikely to have been willing to pay out a fee of anything approaching that size.

Speaking at lunchtime, Blues boss Mick McCarthy reiterated that he was happy with his squad and had no plans to make any additions before tonight’s 11pm deadline, although he did say he had made some enquiries regarding "younger" players and said they were "non-starters really in terms of the money", which may be the source of the Dack claims.

Greenwich-born Dack played youth football with Charlton before moving to the Kent side’s youth set-up. He spent time on loan with Braintree in 2013 and is contracted to the Gills until 2018.

I would love this to be true but if we spend £2m on one player let alone 11 players this window, Ill eat my hat and any other hat you want to send to me.

I'd be amazed - not sure what at more, Ipswich spending a 7 figure sum, or McCarthy's bluffing ability, but i'd be amazed.

Personally can't see it happening, but we'll see. We'll see.

2 stories in 15 mins that just contradict each other. An area where we really do need more goals and creativity from. In my opinion Douglas should not be starting anyway so if this happened surely he would get a central midfield role ahead of him. I very much hope this goes through so we will see what happens.

Well it's just nice to see us linked with a highly rated young goalscoring midfielder. Just the type of player we need but really can't see Evans paying that amount of money, even if it was for Lionel Messi.

Wallingford Boy- No he is much better, 14 goals and 21 assists from midfield in League 1 (Gillingham are 2nd). he is far superior to Roofe......

It's a case of being misheard. MM is trying to buy a Mark Muphy ugly duck!

Since Clegg left there haven't been too many of our dealings reported in the press before they are confirmed by the club which has been a real improvement in the running of the club so be surprised if this was true.

Does Mick actually know what's going on re players ......

AM "no additions, happy with what I've got" .....

PM "hang on here's a £2m signing ....where did he come from" ... "well done board you got me again - like when Digby signed" 😊 😊

Excellent player, just what we need...which is exactly why it won't happen. Oh, and the small matter of us not spending £200k let alone £2m.

DaneITFC added 16:41 - Feb 1
£2 million? Would be a good signing but no chance we'd spent anywhere near 20k let alone 2m.

Far too forward thinking and too young we will sign Thomas instead which sums up Towns ambition
