Tuesday, 9th Feb 2016 17:30

Midfielder Andre Dozzell skippered and striker Ben Morris started as England’s U17s lost 2-0 to Holland in their final game at the Torneio Internacional do Algarve this afternoon. The third Town academy scholar in the squad, keeper Nick Hayes, was an unused sub.

Second-half goals from Feyenoord pair Tahith Chong and Dylan Vente saw the Dutch to their victory.

Dozzell played the full 80 minutes as he won his ninth U17 cap, while Morris, who was replaced on the hour, was winning his third.

Hayes, who saved a penalty in the second game, a 2-2 draw with Germany, has three caps at U17 level.

The Germans won the tournament having thrashed hosts Portugal 5-0 this afternoon with the Dutch finishing second and England third.

As I said at start of tournament, its good to see 3 of our players from ITFC in squad made up mostly of Premiership players.Furthermore Town provided more players than any other club; which bodes well for the future.

Would like to see more players coming through into first team from youths now,as since MM has been here only 1, Teddy Bishop, has made it on a regular basis, and he is very injury prone;so effectively it is none!An appalling record, especially as Mr Milne said about a year ago that they hope to have half the team home grown in 5 years.

More spin?

Was at the game yesterday and a creditable performance from both players who were at a level of those from other clubs including Premier League.

Dozzell looks good going forward from midfield but over the 3 games I was veri impressed with the skill and workrate of young Ben Morris, who looks like a young Freddie Sears in the making. Needs just to work a bit more on his finishing.

The future looks brighter but as Seasider says these kids need to be given an opportunity even if it means a season or two of mid table mediocrity
